That is not a "Sweet" buck. He is "NASTY!" I love those kind! They make a person's knees wobble and it's hard to get any air in your lungs. Thanks for a great picture.

Nice buck....Looks like he's got a year to two before he peaks... No telling what he puts on...

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have
some good ideas!

I disagree, I think he is a older deer.

He wasn't an old buck. This buck has been watched by a lot of people over the last couple years.

From what I heard he got messed up fighting with another buck and F&G had to finish him off. It's too bad because I was looking forward to seeing what this buck looked like next year. He put on about 25"-30" this year.

Terrible ending for this incredible giant. That rack is
simply amazing. Check out the mass, width, and character
on that rack. Just a shame.

ELDORADO

I just talked to NDOW. That buck got into a fight with another buck, which lasted over an hour and was witnessed by several people. This buck was gored several times and was mortally wounded. The game warden was called and the buck is now in NDOW?s possession. It is hard to believe that a buck that big, and in his prime could be killed by another buck. I would like to see the other buck, he must be a badass.

Say what you will. Watching this buck at 30 yards for over an hour vs. looking at him in a couple washed out photos on the innerweb is the same thing right? I can try to dig up some pics of him from last year.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-11-11 AT 07:29PM (MST)[p]Last year we lost one of the biggest muleys we had on one of the ranches I hunt,I found him dead during the rut obviously had been fighting. The next week we spotted a spike 19" fighting a 4 point and winning. He was highly aggressive deer, game department said we had to wait till the next week when the season opened. He was dispatched the second day his weird antler spikes had given him a huge advantage. G&F aged him at 4 1/2 years old and he was a very aggressive deer from the one fight we witnessed. Size of antlers and body weight of the deer isn't always the key during the rut.

I can just imagine walking over a ridge to that.... It might just run down my leg!

Yea... the story plot gets thicker. I have a friend who talked to the guy whose backyard the NDOW put the buck down in. He said it was a large 4 point that this buck got in a tussle with and the fight did go on for awhile. The big buck seemed exhausted and went and laid down in this guy's backyard. He didn't think the buck was injured bad enough to justify putting him down. Who knows what really happened. As always, the truth to the story is somewhere in the middle. I just really hope that NDOW studied this buck very closely before making the decision to put him down.

Nice buck. Too bad mother nature took him. I can see how a tall narrow buck could easily get inside his wide rack and gore him in the head and neck area. Also his tines look pretty blunt compared to most bucks. Even though he has a great rack by "our" standards, it is probably not the best rack by "mother natures" standards.

Bummer they put this buck down. I've been 10 feet from this buck on numerous occasions...

I was wondering what would happen to him, I was looking forward to collecting his sheds.

I think NDOW is full of B.S. I want to see this so called video of this buck fighting and getting gored that bad. I believe NDOW has a wildlife veterinarian on staff did he decide this buck would not make it? How many Bucks are fighting in the end of Dec.- middle of Jan. I sure haven't seen them. I think this buck was shot for an NDOW display or something.

I heard they are putting in on display at the Reno airport... There were a lot of people watching and routing for this buck to make it through the season. Its a shame he made it through all the hunters and ended up dead anyways. I have a hard time believing that they were this aggressive this time of year.
