SOLD Antelope Island tag

Even if he gets a 265" buck- (which he could) That is still $1,000 per inch of bone...

Ridiculous...

So between the AI Sheep tag and the AI Buck tag it is less than $300K going to save the Island from closing?

A $1 a vehicle entrance fee thruout the year would have created that amount.

>Anyone know who it was that
>bought the "Island" tag? I
>also heard the Henry Mtn
>tag went for $70K.

I heard Stinky was a "Fluffer" for the guy during the long bidding process.

The state runs the island. Davis county is trying to take over management. No, selling the sheep and deer didn't close the budget shortfall. Yes there could be a 250 deer out there. My question, is this why doyle isn't guiding the gov tag, there is way more money hunting pet deer on an island? HEY DOYLE, I have video tap, how about some of that finder fee money coming my way?

I cheered for spidey, now I am cheering for island deer, but there are more than me.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-11 AT 10:45AM (MST)[p]State Division of Parks and Recreation run the island. The RACs voted for a tag but the Parks and Rec folks had the final say on whether they would allow the hunt. I was somewhat surprised they did allow it because they are kind of slanted toward the animal rights groups etc.-- more like the FS and BLM are. We were never given a definite answer as to whether the hunt would be allowed. I guess the economy and budget shortfalls put the pressure on to allow the hunt. As I understood at the RAC meeting the money would be split between the P&R and the DWR.

I think I'll really enjoy the tag I bought! LOL JK

The money that guy must have is beyond my comprehension!

Hope he finds the 170" buck he's after.

Simple Question,

Why would you spend 265,000 dollars to hunt one deer.

When you could take that money and break it down to
5,000 dollar increments and buy 53 different hunts.

Then you could divide that by five people and you could hunt a place like the Vernon,Book Cliffs or some other place with five of your family members or friends for the next ten years.

It just doesn't make sense to me to spend it all in one place.

I know if I had that kind of money my family and friends would have tags also and would be hunting with me.

If he has 265k to spend on that tag he probably has another 265k to do that too.

I understand the fellow( W.D Martin )that bought the tag owns a oil drilling company. He makes a estimated 80,000 a day. Kinda of hard for the average joe to understand that kind of money. He has bought other tags .

Hardway, your probably right. He probably has more money than he knows what to do with. I have a hard time thinking in that kind of money with what I make. It's probably like buying a candy bar at the store.

That is like spending $20 bucks when you are a billionaire. Mark Cuban gets that much taken away from him in NBA fines a year...Just saying. It was just like buying him and the wife dinner at a restaurant.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-08-11 AT 07:07PM (MST)[p]Actually he doesn't own any company. It was his dad that owned it. I wish my dad would give me that much money.

Please Dear,

They are already charging $9 a day for use of the island. I highly doubt that island sees 300,000 visitors a year (not including kids on field trips from local schools who most surely don't pay the $9). That is 822 vistors a day? Maybe they will still have to increase fees by $1 but now with the money earned from hunting opportunity they have to be closer than to being in the black than they were before the tags were issued. I still don't see how any hunter can be opposed to utilization of our public lands for increasing hunter opportunity.

How many bidders were there. Were there many that were in the game after $200M Or was Martin fluffed?

According to SFW, the State park is no closer to meeting its budgetary shortage after the tags sold. Their program said that 90% of the proceeds will be going to habitat improvements. S.O.L. for the State Park facilities?

Before the auction started there was two bids for $100,000. My dad called me when the bidding started, so I listened to it over the phone. I don't know who, or how many guys were bidding.
