Ijust got back from the expo @ salt lake, had a great time and meet many wonerful people, hunters and spectators, the great people at kings camo made it possible by welcomeing us as part of there huge multi product display, Steve a trophy hunter for many years also shared also shared quality hunt information with us,and dave helped alot with set up, THANKS guys.
My story and pic's are in the newest christensen hunting illustrated, check it out.
All of the muley nuts and hunters in general assured me my buck [bowinkle] was the biggest most awsum [wow] buck ever seen, thanks guys for keeping the grin on my face, 42.5 inches wide 41.75 main frame 50 inches of mass 240 gross no bc net yet.
I'm going to get it into a show in phx soon so more people can enjoy it. here are a couple pics ENJOY

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-11 AT 11:22PM (MST)[p]Is this your AZ Strip buck?? Giant typical with a couple little kickers on each side?? Pics didn't load??

If it is the same buck, I told you he was 240" in the hotel lobby when I was getting off work Friday morning ;-)

jvw -you need to re-name the pic before you post it in the link. The <1> before the .jpg is not allowing the HTML to read the link and that is why the pic won't post. Rename it without any special characters then re-load it.

yes Icarryed the real rack back to my motel every day, I also packed it around comparing and takeing pic's with other deer
like Rich Langner's monster he got this year.
Great time STILL GRINNEN!!

The picture doesn't do that buck justice!
jvw was kind enough to let lots of us hold that monster. He is super heavy and wide, etc. Certainly the most impressive mule deer I have ever laid my hands on!
You keep that GRIN, cause it is well deserved!

That is just a pig! It reminds me of a deer I saw on the Paunsagant years ago. It stopped on the road in front of me and I swear it was as wide as the front end of my truck!

It's always an adventure!!!

John, That is without a doubt the most impressive rack ever placed on my lap. And as been said, pics don't come close to showing the mass and beauty of this rack. The highlight of the show in mine and others minds because of how willing you were to allow everyone to hold and take pics of your trophy. Great job man and congrats.

Not that hungry at the moment, thanks though. Did the original poster claim that it was DIY? Not that I can see.

Was told he and his son scouted him out and competed with the outfitters for the buck. Not by his self but drew the tag and hunted hard.

Yelum

jvw, I was not able to attend the expo, but for you to allow people to hold that beautiful set of antlers is one of the best things I've ever heard! Worth the price of admission to a lot of people I bet! Congratulations!

my hunt was a draw tag, hunted only with my son's and long time friend. complete story in new Christensen's Hunting Illustrated, supposed to be out any day.
By the way if I had alot of money I would have spent it on this GREAT hunting experience

Thats a dream buck for sure. Congrats. Thanks for sharing ur pictures

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have
some good ideas!

utehunter
when I first saw him alive I thought he was 340 but I will settle for 240, by the way some say he will go in the books as typical and non typical, but real high in the typical class

Let me add my thanks to the down to earth nice gentlman who took this buck. As one who got to hold that monster at the expo that is likely as close as I will ever get to something that caliber. Thanks for sharing and congratulations again.

that is an awesome buck! it did not even look real when i first seen you carrying it. congrats!

I agree the show was a blast. I want to thank kings for inviting us up to the show. I have never met so many nice people in one spot in all my life. I hope at least one of the folks we talked to and had put in for the AZ strip draw a tag. Bowinkle, Lefty, Nasty jack the list of huge bucks that have left offspring on the strip goes on and on. We would love the oppertunity to go hunt down and harvist another AZ giant. Congrats to my dad I am very thankfull to have shared the hunt with him.

There is nothing like the feeling when hours and hours of hard work pay off........

That is just a awesome buck.

JVW, I talked with your son on Saturday as he was packing the rack around. Without a doubt the most impressive rack I have ever held in my hands. I just stood there with my jaw on the floor and drooled the entire time. THANKS A BUNCH for letting us all have a chance to see and hold it in person. WOW!

Man, there are sure several on here that are really trying to ruin a great thread showing an awesome trophy! Shame, shame, shame!!!

I agree, AWESOME BUCK!!!!, but I sure don't know how you come up with 240 gross? Maybe you are unaware of how the inside spread credit works? I looked at your photos and came up with about 220 give or take an inch. That was being very generous on some of the point length estimates, and using the mass measurement that you stated in your post. Doesn't matter what it scores, its a fantastic deer. Congrat's

I see almost all of the negative posts, pictures, and responses have been removed from the thread! Good, and I hope that buck scores 240+" when it's final score is done!!! However, who really cares, other than a bunch of whiners that didn't shoot that magnificent beast!

elktaper, wow, you must be really good at this scoring business. you can just look at a photo, and get within an inch.most people actually have to tape the real antlers to get that close. Do you win all the scoring contests on here?

Hello John
Man, it was great to see that buck at the show. Almost as good as being there during that hunt. It was one to never forget, especially for you and your sons. I know my dad and I had a blast and the time went by way too fast. After putting in since 1995 it finally did happen. Your buck is awesome, Its a toss up between yours and the one in the Muley Crazy booth. Its cool to think that we had a chance at them both. Holding your buck put me over the edge, it was the biggest buck I have ever held. Thanks again and thanks for the pics of my dads buck. Hope to see you sometime.
Kelly

I guess we will have to wait to see the OFFICIAL score sheet once it is measured. You will post it right?

Why should he. The guy killed a great buck and was as generous as anyone I've ever seen in letting people see and hold it, as well as showing us pics. And all he's got is crap for what he said it scores. I don't care what it scored or how wide it is or what he or anybody else says it scores. I haven't seen a pic yet that shows how big it was in my hands. If somebody wants to believe their bucks scores so much, let them. Is it costing you money by what he or anybody else says. BFD. Enjoy the pics, because the way people get attacked for saying something, soon they'll just stop sharing. Give it a rest.

Yelum

Hey TOPGUN and Yelum I agree with you 100%!!!!!!!!! Its to bad that people cannot enjoy something of this nature without talking down about it. I harvested a nice buck this year and heard all about it on every website out there. I didnt even do any posting of my own pics after all the negativity, sarcasm towards my animal. So good for this guy and his achievements! Congratulations to everyone that considers what they harvested in past years a trophy to them big or small!!! That said I dont see anyone talking smack about the kid who may have just shot his first buck and its a forky. Why cant everyone get he same accolades? This is why I hunt because I did when I was a kid maybe some of you should remember what it was like.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-11 AT 10:19AM (MST)[p]YOU AINT GOING TO KILL A BIG BUCK UNLESS THERE IS A BIG BUCK WHERE YOUR HUNTING!!!

ELKTAPER
i think you misread the post there is no bc score yet so the numbers are NOT B.C.
how do you think my buck would SCI? but that has NOT been done yet either
please respond THANKS John

Just out of curiosity, what really is the big deal? why is a man bragging about his giant mule deer getting attacked? does it all boil down to jelousy? if thats the case its pretty sad.The few people launching this attack are probably going by what they have heard through rumors. It is a fact that everyone who has had the pleasure to hold this deer in person, cant believe what they are seeing and i do mean everyone. The comments these fortunate people made are very pleasing. So if you have had the opportunity to hold this rack, and you are not in awe, than you few people have serious problems. My personal favorite comment is ''I would drag my @#!k through cactus, just to have layed eyes on the buck"

I didn't misread anything, you said no B and C net. Which implies that the gross was B and C, you made no mention of SCI at all. However, if thats the only way you can try to get it to 240, I say 230 tops, under their scoring system, which I never use or hear any one quoting on this website. Why won't you post it the green score sheet? I am not attacking you personally. I am just questioning the score. I have said again and again, thats a GREAT BUCK.

It is irrelevant until the guy has it offically scored and enters it into the Book. That is when it matters. Otherwise we would all be policing every photo. Who cares. It just seems the "Strip Club" is making sure everyone knows everything about it. Did he turn down a MC rag story? Is that why you guys are pushing the issue? That is what seems to be happening. If that is the case then we all could show everyone a few bucks on pages of different rags which did not score what the writer claims. Enjoy the buck for what it is an move on.

Strip club, that is the best most logical explanation ive heard for this. if i recall the strip clubs very first thought when they seen it was 237'' but im sure they dont recall that.

ELKTAPER
first let me say I hope YOUR 230 sci holds up.
Then let me add that I had to go back and read my post and yes it say's b.c. net and I see how that could be misleading, you are going to have to belive that was not intenional, but thanks for not attacking me personaly, I had earlyer replied to someone telling him that number had no deductions and i thought that covered it.
as far as attacking me personaly there is a small group of people that are and I'm glade your not one of them
thanks John

Had the opportunity to hold the horns at the expo and I've got to say that the pics definitely don't do it justice. One of the most impressive deer I've ever held.Congrats and keep crowing,I would!

Well I finaly got so see the magazine, Dave and crew did a good job unscrambling my words and makeing it understandable, although I still wish we wouldn't have changed it to bullwinkle
as it will always be BOWINKLE to me, anyway thanks alot Dave for makeing it happen, Everybody enjoy
by the way there are many great articals and hunt info. like pat's montana record Ram GREAT RAM PAT

John, do we have to subscribe to the magazine to get the article or will they let you post a copy here. If not, could you give us the short story version here. I've heard it in person, but most won't get the chance, Ray

When looking at the pictures of this buck, I look at it just like the contests and other photos guys put up on this website. Look at the huge spread in guesses that most of these get! To me, the picture with the guys around it at the kill site don't make it look anywhere near as big as it is compared to the rack in hand in the closeup photos. Like was mentioned, what's the big deal until the buck is actually scored and why would anybody badmouth such an animal unless it was scored and THEN the hunter tried to up the inches with outright lies, which certainly hasn't happened in this case! Just sayin!!!

clock

jvw,

Congrats on your world class buck. I've hunted 13A as well.......great, exciting experience!

Are those bucks in the photo in your last post from 13A as well?

Horn_Star, it actually is that big. Seen it in person, held it in my hands, heaviest rack I've ever held, widest rack I've ever held, pics do it absolutely ZERO JUSTICE!! Glad to know you're an expert scorer off some pics though, heck I'll just have you score my next deer instead of wasting an official scorers time :)

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb37/Feleno/zFix.jpg[/IMG] ~Z~

I didn't say it's got a bigger frame. But it is NINE full inches wider and HEAVIER, all the way through!!

If you saw this deer in person your opinion would be different I guarantee you that dude, not one single pic I've seen yet does it any kind of justice...

Disagree if you want but why make yourself out to be a jackass by talkin chit on it?? You're talkin chit on an absolute monster that's 42 1/2" wide...DUH!!

Yes those 3 bucks came from 13a in 2010, the one on the left is dave millers from pason az. Dave and his son ( whitch are frinds of mine)hunted with Alvy Johnson As they didn't have time to do there own scouting, the center one was taken by az. resident Kip Patelli (sorry about spelling if wrong) Dave and Caleb also got to help find this deer with Kip. The buck on the right was taken by Jeff ? I forgot his last name also az resident from lake havasu area, I met jeff while preseason scouting this was his second tag in two years in 13a (wow) the previous year he took a big cactus buck, Jeff was hunting alone as his buddy couldn't make it . 3 great bucks 3 great guy's

Hunt_Rez! I knew you'd find your way back. Can't believe ~Z~ didn't realize who he was talking to.
Isn't there anyone willing to post up the score sheet on this one yet? I'd love to know what the inside spread credit was...

LAST EDITED ON Mar-25-11 AT 09:29AM (MST)[p]Yep, when no official score is stated it is at least not sportsmanlike calling people out and essentially calling them liars when that buck stands for itself! Posts were deleted and it sure wasn't for being nice guys on this thread! All that should have been mentioned was a big congrats to the gentleman on a fantastic animal IMHO!!! I'd like to give jvw a big pat on the back for handling things in the manner that he has and just say that the man has CLASS!!!

PS: I just went into the magazine online and have to say that the man writes a good story too! That was a great story of two fantastic bucks taken on one hunt and the picture of jvw holding the rack with the PU in the background at the end of the story really shows the width of that big Mother!!! Great job jvw---YOU THE MAN!!!

Just wanted to say congrats on harvesting this buck, he is absolutely the buck of a lifetime. To all the skeptics You really would have to see this buck on the hoof or hold the horns to realize how big this buck really is, I have seen him and held his 2008 sheds, they are unreal to hold.

Generalee

Awesome deer. I for one can care less what an animal scores. I have never been big on scoring deer. It is a number and in my opinion does nothing to show that an animal is a trophy. The deer you have is absolutely amazing. To everyone that can't see that it is a huge deer with out a score sheet needs to take a look at where hunting is headed with everything being judged by some numbers. It is you so called hunters that only care about Boone and Crockett scores that are making hunting a rich mans "sport" and making the non-hunting community hate hunters even more. Grow up and accept that this animal is a true monster regardless of what Boone and Crockett says.

When I first saw a pic of that buck being held by the check station warden, my eyes popped out of my head. My ideal trophy mule deer is a 250 nontypical, but if i saw that hoss next to him, ide take this one. Reguardless of score, that buck is a beast and a buck of many lifetimes. Congrats!
