nevada 12 points-deer

good luck drawing it though haha... i just looked at the drawing odds for non residents and its 598 to 1!!! lol...so chances arent too good for drawing that lol... 24 late is a good hunt too. the odds suck too but they're alot better than 22 late...

What size of buck and what expectations do you have for the overall hunt? Tired of asking this same question every time.

It all depends on how much scouting you are planning on doing. Odds of you walking into a giant with any tag are poor at best. tell me how much your willing to put into it, and I'll PM you my thoughts.

NVMDF

NVMDF, I would put in the effort to make a tag in NV worth the wait. depending on the unit I would make a mininmum of 2 scouting trips to get the lay of the land and learn the unit and get a game plan. lots of networking looking for info to get starting points.

whiskeyman,
"What size of buck and what expectations do you have for the overall hunt? Tired of asking this same question every time."

I would target a mid 170's or better buck. overall hunt? i like to spot and stalk with enough room that i don't feel the need to share a prime spotting location with every guy in the area. sage, cedars, rimrock with a mix of aspen and pines on top if i were able to pre-order a location.

sandsavage, thanks for the p.m, sent one back to you.

I would look pretty hard at the 06's and 07's. Twelve points should give you a good chance at either although I havn't studied odds of draw for last season yet. Maybe an outside chance at 033 which I think at one time was one of the premier areas in the state.

I only apply for the northern units because they are the closest to me. Makes for reasonable scouting trips. Those areas are the better hunts in that region. Fires hurt the 06 units a couple years ago but not as bad as most people think according to the bio for that area....

Howdy treedagain,

You are in a very good position to draw a tag that will yield your exact desires and goals. I'm in a similar position and still wrestling with which units and order for my application. Don't forget, in NV they run thru all 5 of your choices before moving on to the next application.

Are you aware of the new late hunts Oct 21-Nov 5 this year in many units? Check the regs. There will be few hunters in all units during this time period. These late hunts can certainly fulfill your expectations if you can draw one:

area 6 units
area 7 units
area 13 units
area 22 units

Areas 6 and 7 are still good in October but are much more crowded in October cuz many more tags issued. Area 10 is awfully crowed during Oct hunts but also has a late hunt this year that has fewer tags and might produce a buck of your size. Unit 231 is is good October hunt to consider, as are the area 22 and 13 units.

Here is a photo of your buck that I came across on my 2010 November elk hunt in unit 081.
