I was just reading the great story about this awesome deer and couldnt help but notice how most the credit was given to Dan Butler of Springcove outfitters. I hate to be the one to say it but credit should be given to those people that actually took part in the hunt and not just some guy that happened to have the outfitters license. The guides name was Ben Hepworth and he is the one that made this hunt happen with the obvious end results.I personally spent all summer scouting for deer and elk with him and he puts as much time out there as anyone and has more knowledge and experience helping him out than anyone in this unit hands down.If you do happen to get a tag for this unit and do need the help of an outfitter call good old Dan at Sprincove Outfitters and have him set you up a hunt with Ben and all his available resources you wont be disappointed. If your looking at buying an allocated tag from Dan and your a serious muledeer hunter ask for Ben (trust me) he knows muledeer. If you want to go on an expensive camping trip go with good old Dan and Jerry they probably have some good stories for you around the camp fire.
Heres a picture of Bens deer he shot this year. He drew a leftover tag, 1 in 100 odds, and only had a couple weeks to scout for himself but we managed to find this awesome deer and Ben smoked him in his bed. I got it all on video, it was a great day.

Incredible mass and character on the Gibbs buck. Nice, heavy mainframe on the Hepworth buck. Congrats on two outstanding trophies.

Exceptional bucks!

Though you certainly can't pretend to be surprised by these typically cheesed!ck outfitters laying claim to fame at any and every opportunity (no matter how unwarranted), now can you? Their guides may be indeed be responsible for their 'success', but guess who slurps in to take the primary credit?

These sandbaggers seem to be everywhere these days...hell, look at all the goofballs here on this website exploiting the 'backdoor approach' of advertising...their handle is the name of their outfit, all their posts are thinly veiled self promoting plugs for their 'top notch' operations, and EVERY picture they post has got their stupid 'extreme team' type logo on it

Still surprised that this insidious and underhanded crap is allowed on here, but I ain't the boss of this place, so...nevermind!

anyway, beautiful bucks both...am glad to see the guide reap his own reward

LAST EDITED ON Apr-15-11 AT 07:30AM (MST)[p]Thats what happens when you go to WORK for SOMEBODY else. You sign up to be a grunt you don't sign up to be a hero...Go put in the time to establish a rep so you can book hunters to begin with. Then buy your lisences, buy some insurance, buy some permits, buy some advertizing, lease some land, compete for clients, PAY YOUR GREAT GUIDES, then try to raise a family on whats left before you start whining......

+1

Both of them bucks are sweet. Thanks for the information and the story. In my opionion a first rate class act outfitter is everyone from the top to the bottom (cook, packers, guides, outfitter and everyone in between. One usually does not sore without the others.

Its no different than giving a general contractor credit for building a house, or telling a restaurant owner your food was great, but when things are bad the finger is always pointed toward the owners and the blame is on them. Hats off to this outfitter for hiring top notch guides, I imagine he is greatful to have such good help. Just my two cents

Well said, Josh. It takes a team to make these things work. Sounds like both men did their jobs.

I definatly didnt want this to get ugly but you all are entitled to your own opinion. But if any of you had been called with not alot of notice to help someone out and did the job that was done, would you feel insulted if someone offered you just 1 days pay for guiding a 6 day hunt.I would be pissed, just my opinion.Guides never get enough of the credit but most dont do it to get paid big money if you have ever been a guide you would know that.Say that week long hunt pays you $1000 bucks, that in no way pays you back for what youve invested (time/money/knowledge) just to be put on the back shelf. If I was that outfitter I would be Damn proud of a guide like Ben and what he could do for me.

Hopefully this is a live and learn situation for Ben. I am a guide and I typically sign on for a 3 day minimum. This protects myself finacially, and ensures my hunter that I Will be working my butt off for him or her. One thing is for sure if Ben keeps killing bucks like that he should have no problem finding work. Glad he got the credit he deserves on this forum.

hey unless your the guy who pulls the trigger all you can say is that you saw a great deer and someone else shot it. Why expect any credit, if your going to guide do it because you love it not because you want credit for deer that somebody else tags

Both of those deer are awesome trophies.Looks to me like he loves what hes doing and is very good at it.Those are excellent pictures A+ to the camera man.Carlos must be an outfitter who ripped off his guides cause hes got a one sided view on this for sure.

Ben is a great guide and person... he knows his stuff as well. Ben and the other guides went far and above what is needed to ensure a successful hunt. The extra mile if you will... And they are a blast to hunt with!

Has anyone seen my kittie?
