15X binos

vortex kaibab? havent used them, but i've heard good things. take it for what it's worth.

Zeiss & Leica are great glass. If money is an issue, Minox and Fujinon make pretty good 15's. I love my Swaro's and am happy I invested in them............. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Leica Duovid 10+15. I found them to have nearly equal resolution, the Swaros have about 2 minutes more of brightness in the evening, I liked the warmer color of the Leicas, and the Leicas have a little smaller interocular distance if you have close-set eyes.

The Vortex Kaibabs are very close to the Swaroleicas when I tested them head2head a few years ago.

Sure there are, but I personally hate 'Ski glass anyway (I know, I know...I'm frikken CRAZY!), as their optics tweak my eyes after a few minutes and can never get quite comfortable behind em

Anyway, the older Vortex Kaibabs are pretty dang sweet, not sure about the latest model, and the Duovids are also quite excellent...but if I was going to order a 15 binocular right now I'd find a Docter Nobilem 15x60mm

Thing is just awesome, and super at twilight with the 60 on the front...apparently the old parent Zeiss-Jena version has a slight edge on it, but I've never had a chance to use one and they're nearly impossible to find.

Good Luck

I'd take my swaro 15x over my spotter or any glass. Cant say enough good about them.

I have an older pair of Zeiss 15x60's and they are awesome. I have sat side by side with 15 x 56 Swaro's and I prefer the tint (or lack of it) on the Zeiss. The Swaro's have a slight green tint. The only drawback is that they are a little more bulky. I still put them in my pack more often than the spotting scope. All a guy needs a quality tripod and a good vantage point.

I own the Minox 15x58's a friend of mine has the Kiababs. We will be doing a side by side comparision tomorrow.

Minox 15x58's

Buddy has Swaro's and neither he or I can tell the difference between those and my Minox 15's. COST A WHOLE LOT LESS! Got them from Doug and Camerland.
Threaded for tripod mount which Doug set me up with. Can switch between my Swaro spotter and the Minox in a split second.

RE: Minox 15x58's

I've spent some time behind the Minox 15s too, and while not bad at all, to my eyes, they still aint no Swaro.

RE: Minox 15x58's

You may look through some other low end glass and feel that they are equal to highend optics. But after a couple hours of glassing you will feel the eye strain from the lower end optics.
I have both Swaro 15x56 and Leica 10-15x50"s
Swaros are a bit better in the low light. Leicas are lighter and the 10-15 adjustment is nice.
I usually pack the swaros.

RE: Minox 15x58's

Yeah, I didn't mean this to be a top end vs. low end glass debate. I have a Zeiss spotter and Leica Ultravids. I know the value of good glass. I was just wondering if there was anything else out there in 15x that was comparable to Swaro.

RE: Minox 15x58's

"Yes I do Woodruff, Swaro spotter"

Nunya;

Sounds like you have a good setup. I guess I need to toughen up a bit. I hate packing around, more than my 10x42 SLC's. But I could see how it could benefit.

I guess I need to do more glassing. I had a Swaro scope and sold it. I hated packing it around. But, I wish I would have bought a light weight tripod and it would have been a lot easier to pack.

I was really tempted to buy the minox 15's but the eye strain comment you made has me really thinking. My wife has some Minox which are excellent. But, she (we) haven't glassed with them extensively.

I'd buy 15's first and then get the spotter....

RE: Minox 15x58's

Get the 15's for sure. I do all my glassing with the 15's and use the scope only for picking apart a spoted animal or filming through it. Also you need a good tripod and head. Nothing beats a set of 15's on the tripod. Packing all that glass and tripod gets a bit heavy with all the other gear. However, sitting on your butt all day behind your glass often has a better out come than walking through country you can glass a mile or two away.

Sorry for the post hijacking Bigpig, Stick with the Swaro's.

BigPig,

You might also want to take a look at the Leica 15X Geovids. One less piece of gear to carry in the field and the built in laser rangefinder is a very good one at that...

I've already got a rangfinder since I'm mostly a bowhunter, so I don't see the need for the 15x Geovids. I'm definitely not going to carry them around my neck on a stalk. An extra grand too.

Bigpig,

Understood. They would not be my choice if I was primarily a bowhunter either for the reasons you mentioned plus they don't have an angle compensation for uphill and downhill shots. I would also then rule out the 10x-15x Duovids which I also have because it sounds like you are just using them for tripod mounted long range glassing and you would not want the weight of Duovids even with the ability to go to 10X during your stalks. I also have the 15X Minox and used them once if that tells you anything...

The 15x Kaibabs have tested very close to the Swaro's by most people. The Kaibab's have not been changed or updated

Ya Bogey, have had the chance to do some side by side testing between the Kaibab and SLC 15s...only differerence in image quality was that the 'Ski was slightly sharper at the edge of the field, but like I mentioned above, they were uncomfortable to look through after a few minutes...no such probem with the vortex

BP, have had the opportunity to use the Victory RF, but it was a 10x45...quite nice both optically and in ranging performance. No inclinometer however, and I don't think they make a 15 model?

Will say that I've got a new 10x42 FL, and it is simply brilliant!

Zeiss has ads out now for binos (not sure about 15s, although I don't need a rf in big binos) that have the rf and angle comp feature.
