Wow! There were some really great guesses on this one. Basically what you are looking at is three 3 points here. The middle one has a weak front fork but has some good backs to make up for it The left buck has some great mass and one heck of a beam measurement. The buck on the right just a great looking buck. The unique thing about these three deer is that all 3 were the hunters first ever deer killed. So GZNokes I didn't mean to jump on you to hard but these three fine young men did really well for their first, don't ya think? Thanks for playing.

Left buck scored 147 7/8
Middle buck scored 161 5/8
Right Buck Scored 142

Total = 451 4/8

Three MM Members came up with a total of 451.

Congratulations to

Dang it, I nailed the two outside bucks but overshot the middle by 7 inches. This contest was fun, challenging. Can't wait to see the next one

If I would've gone with my gut on that middle one instead of my head I would've done a bit better.

I missed on the middle buck too. I knew his main beams were short, but not that short. I was over by 4" there. Also didn't notice the G3 on the right side was that much shorter than the left side. Missed 3" there. I was a little high on the mass on him as well, missed a couple inches there in total.

Now it's time to get to work on updating the contest results!

Just finishing keying in the guesses and noticed that DRHORNHUNTER was also off by 1/2" on his guess with Post #103 with a guess of 452". Didn't know if this was a closest without going over contest or if you just missed him?

Just checking, Nathan

Good pickup, No he is a winner also. I will make sure to pm him now. I was in such a hurry this morning I flat out blew past him. So congratulations to our four winners!!!!!
Thanks Curtis Wilson

Thanks again for the contest. I was just wondering, what did you use as the inside spread credit? I see that on the middle and right bucks, the inside is larger than both main beams.

Curtis, you are one of the good guys on this website and you do really nice work. My first buck was a two point, so I'd say these guys did really well.

I'm interested in scoring and this contest has confirmed that I'm the type of guy who scores plus or minus 5-10% at a glance.

As for this contest, my total score was off by about 3%. I'll take that. On the individual animals I was off by 10%, 5%, and 5%.

Thanks for running this contest. It really is a lot of time and effort on your part. It's cool that you put up a prize.

Since you asked, I'll put in a request to run a score contest on a great big antelope!

I'm not Curtis, but the inside spread credit is limited to the length of the longest beam.

On the middle buck his longest beam was 20 1/8" so he only gets spread credit for that amount.

I added everything up and that's how it was scored.

I only know that because I had the same thing on a buck that I shot in 2009.

Thanks npaden. I'm aware of the inside spread credit not exceeding the longest main beam. I scored the 3rd buck and keep coming up with 143.5, not 142. I didn't score the middle buck before the boss caught me goofing off on MM.:) I'm sure I am wrong, I just thought maybe the 23 inch inside spread was used and could be part of the problem. In any case, I appreciate the work you and Monarch have been doing for our entertainment.

Yeah....thanks for both the contest and the running tally on all the scores. I look forward to it every week.

Using the numbers provided I get 143 1/2" too. Not sure if there was an error posting the numbers by Curtis or if something was added up wrong on the score sheet or what.

I'm just an accountant, not an official scorer! ;-)

LAST EDITED ON May-09-11 AT 08:47PM (MST)[p]darn, this stuff is killing me today. Went back and checked all the score sheets and double checked all his math and it was all good. I wrote all scores on a notecard to take to work and punch in the scores. I had written them all side by side. Some how I was looking at the middle score and wrote his g2 score on the last bucks g2 score. Sorry guys. the last bucks should say 13 2/8 not 14 6/8.

So officials are right I just had a typo when I typed them in. I need to figure out how to get a score sheet posted so I don't have to type these numbers in. I apologize and good pick up. Npaden maybe I can talk to you to figure how to put the actual score sheets on next time. I was just too rushed this morning and never checked my work. So sorry to confuse you but probably won't be the last time either. I do appreciate your extensive time napden and everyone who takes time to play.

I figured it was something like that. That's what you get for making us guess on 3 bucks at the same time! ;-)

If you have a scanner you could scan the scoresheets or even take a picture of them if you really wanted to post them. You could make copies and mail them to me and I could scan and post them, it would sure make guessing the scores easier if I could look at the scoresheet first! :)

I think we all trust you though, this was just an odd thing with 2 bucks with an inside spread bigger than their main beams and folks wanting to double check their scores. For sure it has turned out to be educational!
