Incase you dont read the Nevada board and you hunt our state...

Nevada Wildlife Commission Decrease Mule Deer Quotas By 25%, Saturday, May 14, 2011

On Saturday, the Nevada Wildlife Commission, under the leadership of Chairman Raine and Vice Chairman Lent, decided to reduce Mule Deer quotas in Hunts 1331, 1341 and 1371 by 25% below NDOW 2011 recommendations, except in areas 04, 05, 15, 18 and 23 where the quotas will be reduced by 10% below NDOW 2011 recommendations. This extreme action was taken despite protests from NDOW staff, the County Advisory Boards, and the public. Commissioners McBeath, Cavin and Wallace fought for 4 hours and seven amendments with arguments against the action including that the Commission was violating it's own policies and making decisions without the consideration of any scientific evidence; but in the end did not have sufficient support from the balance of the Commission to prevent the action. Just prior to the final vote Deputy Director Cates, at the request of Commissioner McBeath, estimated the
loss in revenue to NDOW to be about $600,000.

Can I sue the commission for defrauding me out of my non-resident license and application fees because I applied for units that may now not have any non-res tags?

There is no such thing as a sure thing in trophy mule deer hunting.

Uhh.....NO.

Many states don't set their quotas until AFTER the application deadline.

Look out Forkie, FTW is watching us!

I don't know the details as to why the tags were cut or if it was even necessary but I have to admit, it does seem refreshing to see a state that doesn't just jack up tag numbers because they want more money.

+1,Shawn.The results of fewer tags will be seen as early as next season with more mature animals to choose from. How ya been?

I also agree. I wish the Wyoming Commission would reduce license numbers and take a stand sometime. I'll likely lose out on Nevada this year, but I'm still happy with the long-term result.

Nevada has a buck to doe ratio around 30 to 100. The cuts were made to improve their deer herd. How will carrying more bucks will help their herd? Buck tag cuts are the last thing Nevada's mule deer needs.

I am glad I quit the Nevada chase. Just feel bad for my family which lives in NV and gets to hunt deer every 3 or 4 years-- now every 4-6.

Before you guys start patting this commission on the back, you really need to become informed. This was one last F U to the state of Nevada by a wildlife commission that is on their way out. A commission that will probably be remembered as one of the worst in Nevada's history.

NDOW has some of the most qualified staff of any state G&F agency. For this commission to toss aside all input is simply a joke!

looks like i will be sitting on 13 points next year.....sounds like a decision made by emotion rather than by scientific data...

Most deer areas in Nevada don't have the ability to produce huge heavy antlers anyway, I think the buck quota was already quite conservative, and the average age class is pretty high. You cannot compare Nevadas management to Wyomings, its apples and oranges, while These cuts may help trophy hunting a small amount, its a big loss for many hunters. I hunted a week solid last year, and the only other hunters I saw were in two 4 wheelers that drove by on a dirt road, Nevadas management was already very conservative.

Every Commissioner who voted for the 25% reduction in proposed deer tag quotas should be removed from the Commission immediately. As evidenced by their vote, they are anti-hunting activists.
The biologist recommendations for allowable buck harrvest are conservative to begin with. There is no reason to reduce the Department proposed tag quota especially in Area 10 unless Commissioners want to ensure even more prey base for the lions and coyotes to further aggrandize the need for predator control.

Thousands of Nevada families have just been denied the opportunity to hunt deer and provide food for the table this year for NO reason. Not only does the Department lose revenue but the overall economy will suffer with lost sporting goods sales, gas, motel, food sales.

Those that aren't old enough to have hunted Nevada pre quota days don't appreciate the huge price Nevadans pay in lost opportunity to hunt every year. That is why it is so important to provide as much opportunity as possible to draw a tag. Conservation after all is wise use. Bucks can't be stockpiled and bucks don't sustain the growth of a deer population.

If enough of us write the Governor perhaps he will find the "just cause" to remove the Commissioners who voted for this. Get the tar and feathers.

And there are those who want Idaho managed this way..........
Stab in the back to say the least. For absolutely no reason. Applying for Nevada is a complete crap shoot with unknown odds of draw. Money down the shitter.

Ndow wants to raise the quota in most units, good job wildlife commission for doing the right thing. Our deer herds need to come back. Our habitat is slowly improving, I think our deer should too. I can miss a few deer tags, as long as my kids can hunt and see the deer herds like I used too.

What kind of twisted logic are you guys using to say that killing fewer bucks will help the deer herd recover or grow? NV already consistently has some of the highest post-season buck to doe ratios of any state. If anything, NV has proven the opposite is true, that having a large buck segment in your deer population doesn't lead to an increase overall numbers.

If you want to kill fewer bucks to manage for increased trophy quality that is one thing, but if you think killing fewer bucks in NV will recover/grow the overall deer herd faster you are wrong.

I totally agree with you.ALSO, Why do we even pay biologists if we arent going to listen to them?

Guide quota was based on last year. It is taken out of this year's nonresident quota...So it's a lot more than 25% of this year's quota to the regular draw...
