Can I narrow down migration routes using topo maps and/or aerial photos? I have a good WY mule deer tag for the first 2 weeks in November and want to do all I can to narrow down areas to focus on.

I can easily find good looking spots for elk from maps but can I for migrating mule deer? My guess is no. If yes lets hear some tips.

There are always traditional migration routes that are centuries old......some even indicated by ancient indian petroglyphs.

You have to keep in mind however, that winter storms conditions will have an effect.

Animals will take whatever route is most energy efficient and some winters require them to adapt and alter the route.

You can view topos and see what looks like the esaiest way out of the high country and start from there.....but then again, deer don't have topos......

part o the way to ind migration routes is that there are signs that tell you migration area i know weather plays a big part but its true the deer have been following the same routes for years.

Call the local BLM office near there. They may have migration routes already platted on maps.If not,G&F might.
