I decided to hurry and post this video up of our trip... I didn't finish editing it yet, I'll finish it up and post the better video when I get more time... Hopefully in HD...

This is a video I was makin for the family, so it has several minutes of trip trlated stuff before any deer. Also- it only let me upload 10 minutes worth... Didn't know that would happen...

Enjoy:

You want to see deer now? Head to the divide. You want to see bucks during the rifle hunt head down indian ridge or mcCook. If you want other places to hunt feel free to pm me, I might be able to help a little.

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

Thanks for posting the video. I can't wait to get there. I will be scouting sept 10-14 and hunting the 28th- Oct 6th. I even liked the time lapsed road video. Kinda lets me know what I am in for.

my brother & i have the archery tags and can't wait to get there. made 1 quick trip to learn the roads. blew through alot of gas as well.
any great spots that we should go would be great to know. We have had some great info though and if we find out more about rifle hunting spots we will post them.

17 days until I head to the Books! I've found a few better bucks then those on the video but nothing to make me say "wow" yet. Of course, it's the books and many more 140 bucks will be shot then 160 bucks. It's getting close!

This is no rag towards any of you, but I would be disappointed to draw a limited entry deer tag and see the same quality of deer that we see during the regular hunts. There is no reason a limited entry deer hunt shouldn't have bachelor deer herds of 10-15 strong with 60% of them being mature good 4 points. That is pathetic, I see better bucks on general season than any of those bucks on the video. Is a shame that they call that LE..

You have to keep things in perspective. If you have hunted the Henry's or the Paus' in its day then I guess you would be disappointed in the books. But I haven't. I have hunted Oregon my whole life and have never seen 50 bucks in one day. The old timers tell stories of how good Oregon use to be but that was over by the time I started hunting in the early eighties. This hunt is a blessing, and I can't wait to get there. The dozen or so people that I hunt with have never killed a 160" buck. Maybe you books bashers are a little spoiled. You should be thankful for what you have. History has shown that our mule deer herds are fragile and 30 years from now you might tell stories of how good the books were today.

Well said hills, I would take an archery tag on the books any day over the regular hunts in Utah. I really enjoyed seeing 20-30 160 class bucks on a single scouting trip last summer. Granted, I was scouting for elk but I came away very impressed with the quantity of deer. It is not Henry's or Antelope Island, but still is a great unit as long as a person has realistic expectations.

Please keep in mind that this was just one morning of looking at the deer. We spent the better part of our trip looking into the rifle area, scoping out camping sites and whatnot... ALso- I have to admit, the best bachelor herd I filmed, I wasn't recording them the whole time... I was pretty bummed when I looked back at my video clips and they weren't there...

Anyway, I envy a person that sees better bucks than these on my short video. I honestly wish I had more time to spend lookin for deer in general units. But I don't, not at this stage anyway. Next year I will use vacation time for a trip to the Henry's, that'll be my only trip until hunting season.

In 2 years I will complete my Master's Degree, a few years after that I hope to be working for myself, but until then, I have no expendable time to look over general units like I would like to...

Thanks for watchin guys. I will post a finished product soon. I'm in Vernal and Roosevelt this week for work so I probably won't get anything posted up til next week.

By the way, I love the Book Cliffs.

Are you going to have any extra time in the afternoon/evenings while you are in the basin? If so, you could make a trip to the north end of the books. Lots of MMer's in Roosevelt and Vernal to give you directions.

Thanks for sharing the video BR....nice work! I will look forward to seeing your final product. I am headed to the Books next weekend myself and will aslo post whatever I can come up with that might be worth sharing.

Sent you a PM.
