Josh-

What general area were you hunting? That information might help if someone happens to come across a dead buck.

Good Luck!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-11 AT 12:44PM (MST)[p]Head down and then walked down hill? Maybe some liver but the reaction sounds like something in the gut too. If ya clip the liver they can go a long ways before expiring. That and after 75 yards your arrow has lost quite a bit of its punch so penetration will be affected. Coyotes gotta eat too.

I've always been impressed with you guys who are so willing to help out somebody in need.

However, this thread looks a lot like another posted in this forum "shot a buck tonight" posted by TylerT. There have been several trolls like this popping up in the past few weeks.

Save you breath and time for somebody who really needs it...

Sounds like a gut shot, and the liver is in the guts. This can cause a lot of bleeding and the buck can die of blood loss very quickly. Often, however, the cause of death is secondary infection and sepsis. This can take up to a week. Either way, it sounds like you have a dead buck to find.

I'm sure you already know what to do. Hit the thick patches where he may have bedded and died, watch the crows and coyotes, and keep an eye around any available water. Don't give up, he is waiting for you.

The hard part will be passing up the 30 inch buck that you will surely find while looking for the wounded buck!

Good luck! Let us know if you find him.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-11 AT 01:13PM (MST)[p] I'd disagree with WyFlyGuy except that this kid shot the buck at 75 yards... 75 yards, really...?? I'm not sure if I should respect your honesty about a very questionable shot, or if you're just stirring the pot...

Also, not sure why you would come on here asking for help finding the buck, and then tell us it's on private ground where no one could find it...???

I think I'm with you on this one WyFlyGuy... sounds a bit "trolly" to me...

Hate to say it, but if you don't have any idea where you hit it and the shot was 75 yards,IMHO the shot shouldn't have been taken and the arrow should be in your quiver! I guess what I'm saying is that you should never exceed the distance that you can put "every" shot in a 6" pie plate!

You asked for advice...so here's mine. I'm with topgun. If you wanna shoot 75 yards get a muzzleloader. Sh!t happens when you hunt, especially archery hunting. So why would you up the odds of wounding or never finding an animal because you had to take that long shot? I hope you find the buck, but this sh!t is getting real old! And if you're a troll I hope karma kicks you in the a$$!

I have a hound dog you can come get and try and find it with it i live in west valley?

Good luck finding the dead buck. But please don't come on a public forum and tell the world you wounded a trophy muley with a 75 yard archery shot! It is easy enough to omit the irresponsible shot distance, and still get the needed help/advice.
