My mom bought this for my dad at a pawn shop 30 years ago. I've been meaning to share the photos for a while. One of these days I'd like to get it properly mounted. The yellowish color is from a stain that has been on it for ages. What would be the best way to get it off (especially down by the bases), wet sanding then color it with some dirt?
Anyone want to venture a guess on score? What I really like is his palmation.

That buck is going to gross at least in the mid to high 180's anyway you look at it. How wide is the outside spread? Dandy ol time buck!!

That is just a light coat of old varnish on the antlers. To remove that, go to your local hardware store and purchase a product called "Zip Strip". It is a gel that you apply directly to the antlers with a rag or paintbrush. Make sure you are wearing gloves as this stuff is powerful. Recommend doing this outside as well. Apply it generously to all surfaces and let sit for about 10 minutes. You should see it bubble up on the varnish as it reacts and dissolves the old varnish. Get your garden hose and wash with cold water while scrubbing with a nylon brush. This will come off well and if needed, re-apply Zip strip until all remaining finish is off. Make sure you rinse antlers well when done and dry with towel. This will keep the original color on the antlers as it looks like your set still has some nice color left underneath. By the way, If you are interested in selling these antlers, please let me know. I would be very interested. My email is [email protected]

Thanks guys. Long, that is a heck of a nice buck you have there as well. The buck doesn't quite hit the majical 30" mark, but comes in at 27 1/2" wide. The buck grosses 193 5/8, with a 186 4/8 frame and 40" of mass.
