This is the buck I was able to harvest on the 19th of Sept. O point unit in Colorado.

I spent the best part of Mid-July until Mid-Sept looking around in what seems to be endless basins of central Co. Many times just out for a hike but other times I was rewarded for my effort. Found a handfull very good bucks and 2 great bucks. Unfortunately for me both the great bucks are still on the hoof.

This guy was #3 on my list but I could not be happier with a great stalk that ended up with a short tracking job and this guy.

I left the camera in the truck by accident this day - due to a long - long hike out and deboning the deer there are no field pics.

Hope you enjoy..

Great looking buck,The good part is now you have to go back next year and try for the big ones.

I'm getting 11' 31.5". Great buck, congrats!

Thanks for all the comments on the buck as it is one I will never forget.

My first child will be here with in the next week and with my normal elk hunting grounds a 3+ drive from where I live I decided to concentrate my efforts on finding then hunting big muleys with a bow. Also sticking with in 20-30 min of town and with in cell range if need be. Missing out on elk camp was made easier by returning home to my expectant mother to be and sleeping in my own bed.

It started scouting in mid-july just after the snow finally started to disappear. The unit I choose to put in for guaranteed me a tag as a Co Res and so I started putting in the miles to look over the endless basins of Central Colorado. I was able to locate bucks but there were many days of just looking down trails like this.

Other times it was hiking on ridges like this..

Here is a buck from a earlier post and one that ended up growing out very well. This pic was from July 24. Shortly after this my camera for the spotter broke so the rest of the scouting bucks did not get their photo taken,

This guy hung out with one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen in a area that I could hunt. Both are still on the hoof as we enter the rifle seasons so maybe next year!

My evening hikes most at over 12k ft were made worth wile by some great sun sets.

Also some of the inversions were great early season..

When the season opened - so started the daily games of cat and mouse that all ended up the same way.. With me getting busted! Sometimes due to wind, other times due to the bucks spotting me, and other times due to other elk hunters throwing a wrench in the plan.

Finally on the 19th of sept I put this buck to bed with another that was pry a bit larger. They bedded in a area that was great for a stalk and if the wind would just work in my favor I knew I may have a chance. After 45 min of stalking and after leaving both my boots and pack behind me I found my self with in 30 yds of this buck bedded. Soon the wind swirled but lucky for me the buck just stood up and the arrow found its mark. After a short tracking job my hunt was over.

He us just over 29" wide with 23.5" and 22" main beams. He also has a sticker off the back of his right antler you cant see in the above pics that is over a inch long. Both of his eye guards are right around 4".

Unfortunately I took my camera out of my pack due to a friends wedding and did not have it with me on the day I got the buck. Needless to say I am super happy with a great buck and memory that I will never forget.
