This was my first year hunting the gen mzy utah hunt and we had a blast. We struggled to find nice bucks but saw tons of deer.
I was hunting with my dad and a few others who are a little older and cant quite hike the high country like they used to though.

I decided to go off on my own the second evening and hunt higher figuring the bucks would be high. I hiked a trail and gradually increased elevation until i was sweating like hell. I was in the bottom of a drainage and started up one side. As i neared the top of the canyon I started jumping does and seeing lots of deer sign.

I saw a group of deer jump up about 100 yards from me and threw my glasses up.....

The first deer I glassed was standing between two aspens and i saw a back fork and decided it was enough buck to try for.

At the shot he hunched up good and ran about 20 yards uphill before turning downhill and disappearing over the ridge, a good sign I thought. I waited a bit before following and after about 75 yards found him.

It was a marginal shot, but the .50 cal hollow point caught his liver and we found the mushroomed powerbelt under the offside hide. The slug is really impressive.

Muleys have been my achiles the last few years. Ive had some success with 2 archery bulls and 2 coues'-bucks but struck out on mule deer which are my favorite so I am tickled to death. Hope you all had a good season!
