Any word on how the DWR is going to handle hunting on the extended archery areas for next year since there will be no statewide archery?

I already know. They will jack it up. The dwr will screw things up so bad. They will listen to b bop and the rest of the rifle hunters and give in to them like they always do. Yes, there are more of them then us, so they have a bigger voice. I hope they leave it as is. You can't fix something that is not broken. But hide and watch, they will break it.

If they change it, they are idiots! It is a fun hunt and the deer herds are doing great right next to the city. Maybe, they could learn to manage the other herds in the state like the extended. You can hunt the deer right during the rut and the deer population is still doing good. Hope they don't screw this one up, but I could see it happening.

I think in nov they will have a RAC disussing it.... whoopie! i agree i am sure the days of archery oly are gone on the front.

i am hoping they will make it a unit and after the genreal archery is up it goes to open for all unfilled archery tags no matter the unit drawn.

or just leave it as a wildcard and if you have a bow tag for ay unit the front is open like normal

It is a fun hunt, but I bet they do away with it. At last years meetings I got the impression that the wildlife board members do not like the extended hunt. I wish they would do a an early season archery and a late season archery on there. You can't beat the rut for hunting with a bow.

I plan on attending the RAC and Board Meetings to at least try to get them to keep it. Maybe we could get a bunch of bow hunters to those meetings and get them to keep it.

Unfortunately, they wont listen. If there is $$$$$ to be made by a special intrest group like, for EXAMPLE, SFW, they will find a way to get gain from it and "CHOKE OUT" the average hunter. Although, that is what they are about is the average Joe Hunter. But the Average Joe Hunter, LIKE ME, doesnt have the $$$$ to buy tags, so I will be one that gets CHOKED out.

I hope they keep it. It is a very fun hunt, but is hard. STEEEEEEP hill sides and the deer hunting and elk hunting is tuff.

Assuming they keep it, you'd just have to buy your tag for that area... No more hunting the south during the summer, then the Front during the rut...

An idea they might entertain (because of the money involved) would be to sell an add-on tag to your general archery tag. It would cost like $7 or something, and would allow any archery tag holder to hunt on the Front, or any other chosen extended archery unit...

As has been said, they will screw it up...

The way we hunt the Wasatch may very well change, but I'd doubt it's going to disappear completely. The deer essentially spend the winter in the city and need to be managed by some form of hunting.

Robiland, I hope you were being sarcastic. What group did they 'give in to' in order to create the initial Wasatch Front area? To the statewide hunt?

What group did they 'give in to' last year making Emigration Canyon and City Creek Canyon archery only? Call Unified and ask the Canyon Patrol commander what group causes more calls to them? It definitely is NOT rifle hunters firing near houses.

Call the DWR and ask their officers what type of hunting creates the most complaints on the Front? I'll give you a hint-it's not you or me, but it is others in our 'minority'.

Heck, just ask me, a dedicated hunter who enjoys using all weapons, how many ARCHERS have tried telling me that it is closed to muzzy hunting on the north side of I-80? Two I think were genuinely misinformed. The third was deliberately trying to lead me astray. Hey buddy, if you are on here, I heard every word you said to your friend at the trailhead.......

We get what we deserve on the Front, IMHO. The shenanigans will cause us to lose a great opportunity found nowhere else.

We need to stop fighting each other, or we will lose opportunity across the board. Because non-hunters don't see bow, or rifle, or muzzleloader. They just see hunters behaving badly, and reflects on us all!

I was told that the Archers will still be able to hunt State Wide, if not they will still get to hunt the extended if made to pick a unit. Should be interesting what really happens but it is what it is.

I hope it stays the same it is alot of fun its close to home and I always see some pretty good animals ill just keep my fingers crossed.

From what i have heard you will have to draw the Extrened area unit to bowhunt during the archery hunt then after anyone with a archery tag (from any unit) can hunt the extended season. This could all change though with the upcoming RAC meetings next month.

Thats what i am hoping for!!!! I hunt southern. But my sis lives in slc and i am usually up there a time or to during october or nov and try to make an appearance over there. Last year was my first year hunting it and i loved it!!! I hunted 4 days and put some miles on my boots. ran into little competition and good numbers of deer. I must say hunting bucks in the rut is harder than i thought it would be. Had fawns and does screw me up a few times. seen some decent bucks. wont get to make a trip during nov this year but will be up there in a couple weeks and i am stoked! hoping these snows push a ffew bucks into the area i hunted last year
