Vernon vs. Bookcliffs??

After drawing an elk tag this year it is time to start building points again. I am wanting to hunt archery deer. These are the two units I am considering.

I would like a few opinions on quality and opportunity please. I am leaning to vernon for one reason, and that is the proximity to SLC. Should that be a factor?

I would be very happy with a 170+ type buck.

Thanks, Devin

Just got back from the books hunting the muzzleloader. Killed my buck on the second morning of the hunt. Scored 180-185 was 28.5" wide and 30" with a kicker. And between scouting trips and hunting I saw at least 5 other bucks that were at least as big if not bigger. I hunted Vernon a few times but it's been a long time. But from what I saw, the books are better. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the link. Guess I should have read a little further down this section!

Is hunting water on the vernon even an option???

There is tons of water on the Vernon. Almost every canyon has a seep or a small stream. I am sure there are some great watering holes, but there are tons of options for water out there. The deer are not tied to any single water source in my opinion.
