Tax write off for donated meat

Can you recieve a tax write off if you donate your meat to a food shelter or farmers feeding the hungry?

Don't you have to pay for the butchering by some sort of donation to get the write off? I think if you just drop a deer of at a butcher who is in the program and the organization pays for the processing through their funds, then there is nothing for you to write off.

yea, you are right, but if you pay for the processing then decide to donate it, you can use that for a write off.
