Antelope Island Hunt

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed it. I was wondering if there was any news on when the hunt on the Island was going to take place. I've seen some great deer out there and would like to know whats happening.
 
Boy, that makes a lot of sense. Put hunters in an area that is basically a canned hunt, during the rut when the bucks stink and taste like shR#^#$^t. Kill them for the horns only I guess. Lets make sure we don't use any commom sense. The DWR continues to amaze.
 
Well the action tag holder paid about $4500.00 per pound for his meat so I sure hope the gets a buck that tastes good! For some strange reason I just don't think that's what he is after though... :)

Are you eating the skin or the meat??
when the deer muzzleloader hunt was in the rut they didnt taste any different than they do in oct.Same for elk-dont hate-save up some cash and buy the tag or get lucky and draw the public tag.!!!! enjoy the pictures of the 2 deer that get harvested there they will be NICE.
 
I like what the Doc said. I don't think the haters would turn the tag back if they drew it or if they had the money they would probably buy it. If they want to hate on something, they should be pissed there is no coyote hunt on the island. The coyotes kill more deer there in one year than the hunters will take in a doz years.
 
@bigbucksforever. The best Deer I have ever tasted is a rut buck I shot in Idaho. I personally don't think the rut makes them taste bad. Stink yes, but taste bad no.

Well the worst deer I ever tasted was taken during the rut. Just seems kind of odd to me to have that hunt during the rut when they didnt really need to. I am sure there are a lot of people out there that would love to have that meat if it was good. Times are tough and it just seems like a waste. you guys can defend the high rollers all you want but they are still probably going to waste the meat and that isn't okay with me. My dad always taught me that you eat what you kill.

How much does that equate to in pounds of antler? I'm thinking about $30,000/lb

How do you know the meat will be wasted? I guess you must know the hunters or something we don't. Maybe your just making an assumption huh! Good luck to the Antelope Island hunters. Hope you find the buck of your dreams! Congrats to them!
 
I shot a buck last year during the rut and he was quite tasty I think it depends on how you prep em when cooking and the age of the animal and how much theyve been running around but my buck wasnt a 230 buck either that would be a fun hunt during nov to see those giants on the island ruttin like crazy.

And yes they do use the meat. I know them personally and to be honest its really not something you or I or anyone else should worry about IS IT ???

Wow, we have a resident authority on who will and will not waste meat now. Thanks for clearing that up bigbucksforever. I always wondered if those bucks would be consumed or not. Glad we have an insider for such information.

P.S. You should immediately take your crystal ball of information to the DWR so they can charge these folks with conspiracy to commit wanton waste of wildlife.

It's just a hunch, but I would imagine that the timing of the hunt has more to do with the number of visitor's out on the island, than the quality of the hunt, resulting from the rut. It wouldn't be wise to schedule a hunt when the island is swarming with visitor's. They needed to wait for a downward trend in the # of vistor's.

I'm with Browtine. That's funny. For $265k or whatever, I doubt they are looking to fill the freezer with what some people call a Meat Buck.

$265,000.....thats amazing...I know for a fact I haven't spent that much money on Muley hunting in the last 40 years combined..I'd rather hunt for 40+ years straight than one high priced hunt..
 
I have eaten several bucks that were in the rut and they tasted great you just have to know what your doing in taking care of the meat........

Judging by the number of people I have heard say the meat is terrible on a rutting buck a lot of people DON'T know what they are doing or what they are talking about.

If you want meat I will sale you a freakin' Black Angus Rib Eye off of my own pasteure after I correctly marbelize the animal through a 3 month graining process.

They obviously want antlers....

Also, the comment about the price being more than what you would spend in 40 years.....well the dude that bought the tag is rich....he spends more on gold plated toilet paper than you or I would on a new truck. So what!? He wants antlers and paid a lot for it. Get over it.

i don't think this is his first or last hunt!
 
There are 2 people hunting out there. One guy from Ogden, lucky bugger and the other guy who spent too much money. I worked out there this summer and filmed some monsters. I also had the unlucky pleasure of running into Doyle Moss. Cant say I much like the guy let alone being stuck on an island with him.
 
By unfortunate, I'll guess you had the road blocked by his guides, was told this was his area and you need to leave, and he didn't give you any free videos. Man, I can believe that guy.

Or maybe he was the unfortunate one, to have run into you. But at least he didn't post it on his web site.

I shot a 4 point 4.5 years old buck Nov. 21 last year. He was in full rut. Other than a little tough he tasted just fine and I like Whitetail meat much more than Muleys meat.
 
In SHEdito's defense, he cleans the public restrooms at antelope island during the summer. Doyle stopped and used the restroom and clogged the first stall to the left. SHEdito tried to get Doyle to auotgraph his toilet plunger but Doyle kindly refused. Doyle walked to his truck to get SHEdito an autographed DVD but SHEdito thought Doyle was being snobish and ignoring him. He flung the toilet plunger at Doyles truck and it landed in the back. Seeing he was under attack from SHEdito Doyle jumped in his truck and dumped the clutch spraying SHEdito with gravel and leaving him there to plunge the toilet with bare hands.
No hard feelings SHEdito, stop by the Mossback booth and pick up your new autographed plunger at the expo!

I didn't put in for it because I think it is a BS, poor excuse of a hunt that is the closest think to a high fence hunt you can find, BUT, there should be a coyote hunt out there, that would be a freaking blast!!!



When they came for the road hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the oppurtunists I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the public land hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything!
 
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! i wish i had a dollar for every time i have heard someone say that they have had a road block off by them! my friends grandpa had a hunt on the pahvant this year for his last limited entry hunt he will ever be able to hunt. and he had to compeat with doyle and his crew because they were blocking roads so they could PHOTOGRAPH the elk.
