My First Buck

I've been a MonsterMuley member for a long time but have never posted too much. Thirteen years ago, after going through a divorce, I was able to go spend some time in the hills deer hunting in No. Utah. I took this nice 3pt in the Monte Cristo area. This was my first muley. I love this picture because it includes some of the old timers who were always at our family deer camp every year since I was a kid, and my dad & brothers. Two of the old timers have since passed away. So this buck has some special meaning to me. At the time, I chose to do a european mount which was a big mistake since the cape was beautiful and included a double white throat patch. I'm sure we have all made similar mistakes with capes during our early years of hunting.

Fast forward to now and I finally have this buck on the wall. I actually did the taxidermy work myself. I am a wildlife artist who has decided to get into taxidermy. The cape used was from a longer hair older buck, so the face has some grey coloring in it, and the brow was no longer black. The second buck pictured I recently finished. It came from another No. Utah buck with a beautiful cape.

I'm currently working on this 231" buck (I had it officially scored) that is unreal. I will post some pictures of it once completed. This buck will be on display at the HuntExpo in Salt Lake in February 2012.

If looking for a good Taxidermist with an artistic perspective at a great price, send me a PM. Good Luck to all on the remaining hunts in 2011.

was that your first mount you have done, looks good. and that last picture is a huge buck, did the antlers get re-colored

Yes, first mount. The antlers are from a No. Utah buck taken in 1961. They were in sad shape. Still working on them. They were stained and lacquered and looked horrible.

Great work Bob. For some reason that 1st cape looks sharper than the 2nd cape. Was it just how the pics came out? Love those double throat patches. Do keep us posted on that 231" mount your doing.

So who did you talk to to get it in the expo? I was just wondering not trying to knock you at all. So you know for sure it will be in the expo. By the way good work and nice buck.

some nice bucks and some very good work on the mounts. Hope to see the Buck that scores 231 after you mount it.
