LAST EDITED ON Oct-18-11 AT 03:23PM (MST)[p]Would like to hear what everyone thinks. Is there any deer left in this state? How would you grade the southern units and the northern units?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-18-11 AT 03:20PM (MST)[p]One thing for certain, lots of Utah orange pumpkins will be on the mountain in the Northern Region :)

LAST EDITED ON Oct-18-11 AT 03:27PM (MST)[p]I think that's how it's going to be throughout the state!

I have never hunted the northern region so I can only speak for the southern region. I predict that after the hunt is over a bunch of good bucks will be posted up on this site(hopefully one of them is mine) and that some of the guys who dont shoot a monster buck will get on this website and boob about how there are no deer left in the state. Thats my prediction!

I'm sure the DWR will give their standard BS forecast: It will be a good hunt. There are good numbers of deer with the buck:doe ratio at or near objective.

Lets just get the opening day over with so the crowds will disappear! Then I can concentrate on the hunt instead of dodging bullets!

As long as I have drawn a tag it has already been a good hunt.... Next year when there is 13,000 less tags available and I am secluded to only one ridge of hunting then you might hear a few more complaints.

If I am out and in the pursuit of deer it has already been a good hunt.

The deer hunting will be "fair" according to the F&G. I guess that means some of you should stay a little longer to find the big one. It's pretty tough to get a good buck by putting in a hard day and a half every year.

The boobs will be great according to me and foreman4X4. no whining from me here either!

The fact is: those who always shoot deer will always shoot deer, and those who don't will always whine about it.

Good luck to all you guys, be safe too!

Hunting on the Cache will be poor. I hunted 1 1/2 days elk and saw 4 deer and no bucks. That was after a fresh snow. Glassed a lot, hiked a few miles. Very few tracks. I don't think deer are walking on air. There are a few, but very few good bucks.

Cant speak for the North but the south looks piss poor in a few places (Boulder and Dutton). I did see some decent bucks in these two units but very few deer overall far fewer than Ive ever seen in twenty years of hunting em. That said I did see good numbers of stock deer and Bucks in the zion unit just nothing huge lots of young deer though one bright spot to go with all the bad down here.

I'm just packing up to leave to hunt the Southern Unit. I hope the hunting will be better than the reports I have received.

Terrible winter here in the North. Deer numbers are way down...

However, I'm just glad to be going out. I'll be guiding my son and dad. I'm looking forward to it; regardless if we get one or not...

I hunted Northern rifle for the first time this year and really enjoyed it. I found a nice area that i had to hike pretty far to get into. The long hikes deture a lot of the hunters. I saw more deer this year than i did hunting central last year. Shot myself a respectable 22 inch 4 point.

Watch your top knot

Went out with DWR game biologist to count and classify deer in the central region. He told me that what he has counted up to that time the buck doe ratio is only 7-8 bucks/ 100 does. The count we did when I was with him was about the same ratio.

Just because I'm curious, where did you go to perform the count and what did you actually physically see?

In the sout I seen more big deer then I did big bulls on my LE late elk hunt few and far between!!!!!

i predict that 2 weeks before the hunt anis will make an announcement and declare that hunters should see lots of deer and lots of young bucks. same prediction he has made every year since he got his job.

The northern deer heard and specifically the cache is in rough shape. It will take some huge changes to salvage the heard.
