My 2011 Rifle Buck

Yesterday could not have been any better. I spotted this buck bedded down, 650 yds away. At first I saw a strange white spot, that I figured I better get my spotting scope out, and once I did, sure enough, its is a bucks nose sticking out of the brush. I could tell he was descent, so I started my stalk, and after about 30 minutes, I was able to get on the ridge behind him. As I snuck to the edge of the ridge, I realized that he was probably less than 50 yds away, so I crept up to a rock and sat down slowly. I turned my scope to the lowest power, and sat and waited. The wind kept turning wrong, and I realized that he might wind me, so I pushed the issue a little. I decided to "cow call" just to see if he would stand up to check things out. So I called, and nothing. After three or four attempts, I started to worry that he maybe had got up and left while I was stalking him, so my next way to get his attention, was a sofball sized rock. I threw the rock like a grenade, and sure enough, he was up and running. I put the cross hairs on his chest, then pulled through to the front of his briscut, and "boom". I was a little worried at first that I had shot to far forward. As he ran, I lost him behind some trees, but I could tell he was hit good. I took a few steps up the ridge, and I could see him on the groud thrashing around. After some hooting and hollering, I went down to check him out, and he only made it about 30 yds from where I hit him. What I thought was a little far forward, was right behind the shoulder, perfect hieght. It was awesome.

A big congrats to you.

I didn't get any tags this year so thanks for posting. I plan on living vicariously through those of you who post your stories.

Congrats on a great buck.

Heck of a buck, and heck of a year Jeff. I'm sure glad we will be hunting elk together this year. I could use a little of your luck.

I'm shooting your elk HJB just FYI

Cool! I'll be sure and have my truck down at the trailhead so you can pack it out and load it up for me. I appreciate that Clint. :)

I'm sidelined with no deer tag this year as well, nor buddies to hunt with...so I appreciate you sharing the details and excitement of your hunt. Nice muley buck, thanks for posting!

Very nice buck.

I am glad you were able to get such a nice deer. You need to somehow convert Danny to hunting.
