LAST EDITED ON Nov-14-11 AT 09:47AM (MST)[p]We just returned from a week of hunting Colorado's 3rd season. We had a great time with good weather, good food and great hunting. Colorado is a way to liberal with allowing private landowners to block off thousands of acres of public land because they own a square mile that the road goes through. Making it difficult to access the best areas to hunt. We made it work with where we could hunt, Thanks Colorado, Dad, Mike, and the women in our lives that put up with our obsession.

Congrats on outstanding bucks, I love the box frame on the middle buck, good job.

Way to get it done on some nice CO bucks. Yeah the blocking access deal is a major problem around here. Even us locals have raised a stink about it. Good luck getting an honest answer outta anybody though. It is definitely a crooked deal that needs to be dealt with. Some of these fifty acre ranchettes now own thousands of acres because they landlock the public behind them. Have their own little private hunting refuges now on land that we all pay for. I have written many letters to multiple agencies about this issue, and rarely so I ever get a response back. It stinks bad.

Did you kill all of those beasts on the same day? What unit? Excellent job and thanks for posting.

Definitely not the landowners fault, just the way it is.

You can't expect that landowners are going to want hoards of pumpkins tracking through there place every fall. If it was my land I wouldn't allow access either

I was there last week and know exactly what you are talking about. I kind of like limited access keeps the road hunters out. Get a gps and walk in from the back or side

That's a good set of Bucks.

In some cases, I agree with you. That being said, alot of the BLM has been landlocked. Unless you got a helicopter, you ain't getting in to it. There used to be a thing called easements that just doesn't happen anymore. The number one answer I get from the officials is that they no longer maintain the road, and thus sign the easement rights away. They say they can't afford it, which is B.S. The money game is as high as ever, the money just never makes it into the field like it used to. They will build another duck pond in the middle of Denver with our money, but when it comes to protecting and accessing lands that WE OWN, it just doesn't happen.

You guys slayed them! I'd take yours--love that palmated g3.

How long is the left beam on your buddy's deer?!?!?!?

"You skin grizz?"

Thanks for the compliments. We saw the buck Mike killed at Daylight the first morning we were there. We just looked at each other saying someone needs to kill that buck. Nobody wanted to be without a tag for the next 6 days so we let him walk. Luckily we were able to find him again Saturday Night. My dads buck was a no brainer. We saw him one morning but were not able to get a shot. The next morning he was a little more in love and my dad was able to kill him. We still wonder what we were thinking on my buck. We actually turned him down 6 times before I shot him. He looked big from the side but wasn't as wide as his ears so we just kept passing. I shot him on Friday night and he got bigger and bigger as we walked up to him. Turns out he has 28 inch wide ears. We really under estimated him. We killed the 3 best bucks we saw, just in a different order than maybe we should have.

Way to go! Those are three very nice bucks. Private land blocking access is a pain but for those who can/will make the hike around the hunting can be incredible.

Hello Bragabit,
It was fun to meet you and your dad and brother. Me and my buddy were camped next to you (the ones who nearly rolled the Silverado). Congrats on three great bucks. You Beaver Boys know how to get er done!

actually property rights are more of a conservative thing, but congrats on the nice buck.

Congrats to the Buck Hunters. Three outstanding bucks, about as nice a hunt as i've ever seen in these pages!

I am guessing the BLM or State never signed over the easements as stated. It was probably that the landowner just used to allow access. Since there is no easement, that access was closed for some reason (didn't want hunters tearing up the road that he maintains, wants the hunting for himself, greed, a combination of all 3).

If there was no easement, wouldn't most on this board do the same thing?

If it is true that the state or the feds signed over the easement they had, then that is 100% not right.

3 awesome bucks, looks like it worked out just fine for your group.

UTODD, nice meeting you also. Post up a picture of your buck. It is a great buck.
The land ownership thing was just frustrating. Most of the land we wanted to hunt was almost impossible to access. We did find a way to get around some of it. It seems like the county and BLM didn't want to maintain the roads anymore so they let the private landowners lock them up behind their gates so they don't have to worry about it anymore. I don't have a problem with there not being roads, but in one case there was a 300 yard section of private locking up 1000's of acres of public behind it.
Utah doesn't get a lot of things right, but in this case when a established road goes through private property then they are forced to leave access. Seams right to me

Great buck congrats.

I am curious about this statement. What is your basis?
