Have enough points (10) to draw archery or muzzleloader. should I wait a couple more years for rifle. wondering what every body thought the best season to hunt deer there is? I have heard Archery and Muzzleloader are muy bien but just want to hear any body's thoughts. I was dead set on Henry's archery but worse case scenario I am still 20-25 years out with 10 pts right now. Anyways let me know what you think.

paunsaugunt sucks the last 8-9 years its went downhill big time, your better off with the book cliffs. The books have produced some stud bucks the last couple years.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-25-11 AT 10:39AM (MST)[p]Yeah pauns sucks, but the best season is rifle or archery the muzz sucks now

I dissagree. yeah the puans is not what it was 10 years ago but those big boys are there you just have to find them. this year was by far the best in years there where sevrel bucks shot in the archery over 200 inches. my family has had tags there for the last 2 years last year i shot a 30 inch 180 type deer with my bow and this year my uncle shot a 203 tipical with his rifle. if you do your reserch and hunt your ass off i know you can get a true monster. but if you wanna take your wife and kids and go see alot of deer and probably shoot a okay buck the bookcfills is the hunt for you. and if you do end up going to the pauns DO NOT get down on your self and go home or shoot the first okay buck you see (thats what i did) just hold out the big ones will show up!

Was down there on the Management Hunt and then went down there to see at what was left, a week before Thanksgiving. Did not see many impressive buck during our last trip to the Pauns. as compared to last year. True there were indeed several large buck shot this year, mostly because of the moisture and good vegetation for the deer to eat, but I am getting two stories coming out of there. Some are saying there were about 1/2 the buck as compared to the last few years, but a lot of those were bigger buck. I'm hearing it was terrible and I'm also hearing it was great.

Would like to hear some input from hunters or deer watchers about the Pauns?

I live in Glendale, and I end up doing a lot of glassing on both Public and Private lands. If you are shooting for 200" bucks you can do it, but there are not as many. I saw a few 185-195" bucks during the Rifle, while I was helping a friend that drew the tag. He ended up taking a 199 7/8 buck. The deer are there, but like rawhide said, you have to pass nice 190" class bucks to get the 200"

redneck and rawhide lets see some pics of these bucks.

Does anybody have any photos of bucks killed down there in last 2 years? I am still torn on this hunt. Archery really has me intrigued.

I forgot to say i would do rifle my cousin had the tag 2 years ago and we had a great time derek mower son killed the buck we were after with the help from ryan hatch and it went 217 he passed up several 180 in bucks and ended up eating tag soup

There was also an awesome, awesome, awesome video posted here last year I thought was titled "Baby looks good in camo" that was the best archery Pauns video I've seen by an amateur in forever... I searched for it, but couldn't find it. It is worth finding... So look back through the archives.
