A Bowhunters Nightmare

You plan and execute the perfect stalk, getting into position as a monster 8x9 buck that is over 35 inches wide moves through the brush. You set up, waiting for him to clear, when the unthinkable happens. He turns and beds facing you through the brush. If you move, you're busted. Then you start to cough and it doesn't matter anyway.

There is no reason for that to be a nightmare. Just be patient, he will get up and move. I think that's what a lot of people, not saying you, lack when it comes to bow hunting. They don't have the patience that is required to wait a couple hours on a buck like that.

Uumm............I believe he said he started coughing. I don't think waiting him out was an option.

That is a hard to take. I have been there also when things just don't come togather. It takes awhile to get over it doesn't it?

Man a bummer. I had a 170 class 4 point this year at 44 yards but he didn't show himself until i was getting ready to crawl a few more yards to see if he was there. He was a smart buck and it was disheartening when all of a sudden there were massive velvet antlers and his black eyes staring at me not giving me a shot. I was bummed!

This bowhunter "what would you do?" moment is brought to you by Ricola....

...on the other hand, I was making a stalk on a lil' buck with a doe when some coyotes started whooping it up right at sundown to the north of me. Thought my night was over when this big ol buck just about ran over me going south, away from the yotes. You just never know.

Tough break, Yelum. Not much you can do when the drenalin kicks in and your forehead breaks out in a cold sweat and you get cotton mouth.

AI buck no worries!!!!!!!!!!!!

No worries for me as we were just filming. But that scenario has played out many a times I'm sure.

I experienced a similar 'nightmare' a few years back. I had stalked to within 20yds of two bedded bucks in the 32" range completely undetected. All I had to do was wait them out. That is until a bunch of horses that were on their winter range came busting down the hill from some unseen danger. That was all that the big bucks needed to blow out of there 'no questions asked'.

Well YELUM!

when i got my buck this year i had a simular deal. i had been keepin an eye on my buck for a few months with trail cams and everything and he was coming it at different times every day and also i was hunting over the counter public land. so i knew there would be a good chance of him being pushed around a little bit once the hunt started. so i decided i would need to sit in my blind all day for the best chance. (home made blind out of sticks and logs) so it wasnt very comfortable. and 95% of the day there was NO action. finally a 125 class 3x4 came in and fed 15-25 yards from me for about a hour. i was getting so tired i decided i would put my head down for a minute and carefully check in a little bit. about 30 minutes went by and i hadnt heard any noise for about 20 minutes so a figured it would be a good time to slowly sit back up.. but as luck would have it the 3x4 And my buck where both feeding at 20 yards. and it just so happend that my buck was looking in my direction so he caught a little movement and took off..i was so bummed but the 3x4 stayed still. and 20 seconds later i could not believe it. my buck had fed right back to 15 yards. i was able to pull back and make a clean shot..i got lucky though that is probably the only time you can have a 200 inch buck bust you and come trottin back in 20 seconds later!
