Oddity of Mule Deer

Since hunting season is over me and my boyfriend still like to drive in the hills and look for deer to "shoot" with our cameras. We came upon a small group of muleys and of course pulled over to watch them. There was a buck with tall wide antlers but something seemed off. They seemed fuzzy looking. He turned his head and it was a long single tine with two small kickers in front. This was a HUGE deer. But what was odd was the antlers looked funny. Not really velvet but more hair. When the deer walked away I seen no balls! Was this a doe with antlers? Or just a nontypical buck? It was too dark to photograph him so were going to make another trip to see if we can locate this deer. I've looked at every webpage on the internet to find some info on this but no luck. I'm hoping to run across him and get some good photos to share. I'm attaching a photo that is poor quality and doesn't really give this deer justice. Just curious as to why the hairy antlers!

Edit. This thread might get interesting

LAST EDITED ON Dec-26-11 AT 09:56PM (MST)[p]Probably a stagg, poor thing you should just put him out of his misery, he has nothing to look forward to in life, puny horns and no rutt action for him in November.

Welcome to the site HChick!

I shot a stag buck, blacktail, no balls at all or sack to speak of, years ago, He was a forkie with small forks but dozens of small points and hundreds of bumps with a good frame and tons of mass. No hair on his rack though, just velvet, not that i remember anyway. Yours may have been a Doe with antlers, not unheard of...

If i can find him again i'll get a better picture to share..and yes, if i could have shot him down i would have..But he was pretty impressive looking yet, and his little spikey boyfriend that was following him would have been lost!

Most-likely a Crytorchid Psuedohermaphrodite. (obviously, right?) Check out these 2 articles from deernut.com (not an advertisement - everything's free there but my book).

(notice the photo in this article is very very similar to the one posted above)

Or, another theory, it may be one of these:
