Nevada Mule Deer Hunt

I have narrowed it down to this state based on their early archery season dates (first part of August). I am a school teacher, so anything past the last week of August is just too late!

I was hoping to get some information from some of you out west who have experience in the state.

Any tips or suggestions in all facets of applying and areas would be great. I have read quite a bit about units: 14, 241-245, and 272.

Unit 14 is a long ways away from 241-272, so not sure what your limitations are. I would not rule out the Ruby Range or the White Pine area. Nevada is extremely hot and dry in August, so I would try to get into the high country to do that early hunt. Otherwise you will have to hunt over water or only get to hunt about an hour on both ends of the day.
I have never archery hunted Nevada, but i am sure there are others that can help you out on this site. Good Luck

Thanks guys, didn't even know there was a specific state forum. That is one me, my fault!

When I think of Nevada, I think of heat so High Country would be preferred.

If you don't like the heat that archery hunts in units 241-245 and 272 should probably be last on your list. The tag numbers in both of these units are extremely limited as well.

I don't know about Nevada specifically, but I have hunted alot of high desert country. Look for the units that are high and/or have good water (year round water). This year water will likely be in short supply, even with the moisture we're getting now, it'll still take alot to catch up. You're going to want to hunt north facing slopes near water mornings and evenings and glass shady areas during the day. Good luck!
