Wy deer units

As I said in my last post I love hunting Wy. I am planning on coming out this year for a mullie hunt. I am trying to narrow down what region to hunt. I will be hunting the 1st week of Oct.I hunted region Y last year and thinking about one of these regions; K, W, or C. I have no points but am willing to pay the extra money for the special draw if regions K , or W is worth it. If not I would probably go with region C. If youall could steer me in the right direction it would mean alot, thanks

I am glad you love wyoming, it truly is a special place. So Let me help you out a bit, First off region K is hurting right now has been for years since the early 90's in my opinion. But has gotten drasticly worse in the last 4 years with last year being the biggest blow loosing 70% of the deer to the hard winter followed by a 14 day season and the same amount of deer tags as always(wyo game and fish refuse to help the deer herds out). Bucks are few and far between and most bucks left being 2 points and 3 points and small 4 points. Trouphy bucks are non existent. That being said not all areas in wyoming are in as bad of shape as the south western and wester part of the state. Here is something to think about, For the last 20 years or so all the attention has gone to the wester and south western parts of the state in regards to trophy muledeer. And all the hipe and pressure Has finally took its toll and has left the area average at best. Meanwhile due to all the publicity that the wester and south western side of the state has gotten other areas in the state have flown under the radar of most trophy muledeer hunters. There are places in wyoming that hold big bucks still but you have to think out side the box and look away from the high profile areas because they are not what they once were and never will be again.

Region K is not worth the special price.

I'd also stay away from Region C unless you want to pay top dollar to access a ranch because there really isn't enough decent accessible public land up there for a good hunt IMO. I don't know where you went in Y last year, but I understand the area around and west of Kaycee is pretty decent for deer and antelope.

Thanks eveyone for your input. I hunted last year right around Sheridan it didnt have all that much public ground but we did alright. I would do region Y again this year but other hunts are pushing my time frame to 1 st week of Oct. Is the mully numbers decent in region C as they are in Y.

This might help you decide. From winter 2010, 2011

I'd get a point for Wyoming and hunt Colorado. Wyoming is pretty much in shambles right now in the historic Muley areas. If you really want to hunt Wyoming I'd be looking at some other units. Good luck.

Hey Skiller. Where did you find this map? Are there similar maps for antelope and other species? Are they available for CO as well?

>I also heard Kaycee was a
>good area. How hard and
>how much to get on
>a ranch?

Almost all private & its not that good. Some nice white tails in that area but the mule deer not so much from what I see every year there.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-25-12 AT 11:53AM (MST)[p]There is a lot of BLM in 32/33 west/nw of Kaycee and almost all of 163 to the southwest is BLM. Have you been in any of those units down there because they are quite a distance from Kaycee?
