Bookcliffs advice.

I anticipate being able to draw a rifle tag for the Books either this year or next. I have never been down there. I'm just wondering if anyone who has hunted it recently would be willing to share some general advice as far as where to enter the unit and where the deer generally are during the rifle hunt. All my camping trips this year will be spent down there looking over the area and scouting. Thanks in advance!

The books is a harder rifle hunt than the muzzle loader. The deer spend all summer on the top, and right after teh muzz. hunt the start dropping off. There are a lot of big canyons they go into and buddies that have hunted the rifle were disopinted. The deer you scout in the summer will be gone bu the rifle hunt. My advice is hunt the smoke pole.

Utah or Colorado Books?

What really torques me off is that you can draw on the CO side 2nd rifle (end of Oct) with 5 NR points, but on the UT side it takes 12. Some thing wrong with that picture as they are a similar number of tags.

I'm putting in for the Books on the CO side this year with 4 points and I have a 25% chance of drawing. 9 NR 'Tard points and it's a joke.

If you don't really know the country out there you should be able to hunt it pretty easily from the main roads and will see a lot of deer. Just don't expect them to be big. You can expect a 140-160 typical 4 point without much knowledge of the area. There are big bucks there but you have to hunt hard for them and they won't be by the roads.

HOOK 'EM!

There have been literally hundreds of posts regarding this very subject. Try doing a search of prior posts and you will find tons of info. Rifle hunting out there is no mystery, no secrets!

Colorado unit 21 with 5 NR points? Not last I checked! Try 8 or 9 points! Look at the draw odds on this site.

You have no chance in hell of drawing the 2nd season with 4 points..or 5, or 6,or 7..you get the picture.

And if UT had a 3rd season like CO, you would see similar draw odds for the 2nd season.Any "tard" could figure that out...You'd think

I drew the rifle books hunt with 3 points as a non resident:)

I was talking Unit 30. Both 21 and 30 are in the Books. On the Utah side, is the north slope better than the south slope?
