LAST EDITED ON Mar-04-12 AT 10:02AM (MST)[p]Just wondering what anyone knows about the Bookjack unit. My son won a deer tag for there last night at the SCI banquet in St George. Any Info would be appreciated. PM me if you would like. Thanks! Rick

pretty country up there! hunted near there last year with a brother, you will be pleased im sure, congrats on the tag, id love to have it!

I was hoping someone would tell me that is where the bucks that jump ship from Antelope Island swam to when they left? haha...

I have a family friend that hunts "Promontory Point" just about every year. I don't know if he hunts the Bootjack or further south... But, 3 years ago, his 18 yr old son shot a 30", 180" buck out there. He shot a 200+" buck out there in the last few years... and last year, his brother shot a heavy horned 3x4 that was about 150" after missing a giant non-typical the same morning (his last morning hunting)

Seems like its a good spot no matter what... SHould be fun for you guys...

If I can get some serious information for you, I will...

Hey Big John, I'm pretty sure the guy bought one of the tags and then won the other one!
It will be a father/son experience and will be great fun regardless of what happens... Along with the father and son bear hunt in May, it is looking to be a memorable year! Now bring on a permit or two on the draws, and 2012 will be more than awesome!

Well Rick if my wife ever asked.....I always say I won it !! Even if there is a check book involved ! Lol But you did win it from the other bidders . :)
It was a fun evening !! I thought our table did pretty well !!
I still cant believe they pulled your name out of the hat.
I want to see a few picture of some of the bucks they are pulling out of that area. Anyone have any ?
It should be a great year for you and Chet !

Oh but John, I "NEVER" lie to MY wife... :)
haha..

Seems when I try that, she eventually talks to someone who seems to straighten out the incorrect information that I have given her, and then the hell I get is 10-fold!!!!!
I got a photo from the unit from fishlake elkhunter's uncle and it was a nice buck. Nothing huge but bigger than anything hanging out in our neck of the woods. It will be a great father/son hunting trip regardless.
Yea, we can't complain. Cash and a buck tag or two..what more can a guy ask for?

Great for you and your son a-r!

Harvesting better than your Henry manage-Buck will be a challenge!

Enjoy,

Robb

For sure Robb...
I'm not planning on that, but probably won't turn a wussy 3x3 like him down if I get the chance.
Got him back from the taxi...guess I should post him up?
Thanks Robb!

Rick and John at the same table....I knew I should have gone to the banquet!!!!!! Maybe some of your guys luck could have rubbed off on me!!!!

"BR, you must be talking about Doug H. His NT was a toad."

Yep- you got it Yelum...

I think Doug H. shot both those big bucks on the North Promontory CWMU not promontory point or boot jack. I know Doug and his son Jason H. that shot the heavy buck is a good friend of mine.

HJB is exactly right... I just found that they were taken on the North Promontory unit... of course you can practically spit from one to the other out there...

I think you got a good tag my friend and I wish you luck...

I have hunted chukars on this unit the last 5+ years. I have seen some decent deer ever year, nothing huge though. Also I wasn't out there looking for deer either. So there might be some bigger there than I have seen. Also seems that the deer herd has declined some since we first started hunting out there.

I talked with the operator and he was pretty stoked that it would be a father/son hunt. He told me they had a cougar problem out there the past few years and so the deer numbers had gone down, but that there were still a few decent bucks around. He said once the other hunts start, the pressure will push a few deer to thru this unit. He really was fun to talk to and we talked for over an hour. He seemed very sincere in doing all he could to help us have a great time.
I am starting to feel pretty good about the hunt. If nothing else, at least we'll get to spend another week or two in the field and enjoying some new areas and meeting some new people..
I appreciate all your posts, and if you hear any more info, I'm all ears!!!
and FLEH, I thought you'd be there, and that is why I drove all the way down to go the that banquet.....:)

Jason , I hear you uncle that got the tag last year took a great buck off that unit. I heard 180 plus ? Any pictures ?
It would have been great if you made it down for the banquet. It was a beautiful day in St. George.

I drew the tag in 2003, my advise is to hunt as late as you can, if you live close enough drive out in late AUG just before dark and you will see some GREAT bucks from the road.
