Muzzle loaders

Hey guys...this forum sure has gotten quiet!

I am just wondering how many of you Blacktail hunters use inline muzzle loaders or tradtional style rifles. I am going to be hunting with an inline this upcomming season for the first time. I'm right near the coast of western washington and it rains allot of the time here. I am wondering what kind of barrel caps or tricks you guys use to keep the powder dry? The guy I got my inline from said he just uses small water balloons and pulls them over the end of the barrel? have any of you tried this? if so how did it work? Well I think I am going to hit the woods and do some scouting....just got some rain this morning so I hope some deer are out moving..See ya later B_B

BB: I havent used muzzleloaders, but for regular rifles we have used tape over the barrel. I think the balloon idea or latex glove finger or rubber would work well......

B_b,

The balloon or tape idea would work for the end of the muzzle. While I was looking at Bass Pros I saw a breech cover made by T/C. Since your rifle is made so that the breech is open to the weather it meets the legal requirements of WA state and since the breech cover would be something you put on the rifle I don't think it would effect this. Might be something you look into. Item # 29-897-597-01 with $4.99 price.

Thanks for the advice guys. Sportfury~ I am not worried about my breach being covered. The only thing that is exposed is the nipple. I was just worried about water going down the barrel and dampening the powder. I tried balloons the other day when it was raining and it worked great. Later guys. B_B

By the way the balloons I am using are the smallest water balloons I can find..I think on the package they said they were for a water balloon launcher. So they are really streachy and small.

Eder's sells a product called muzzle mitts--saw it yesterday in their catalog. Doesn't take much imagination to figure out what they slapped a different label on...

I've used a T/C renegade all day long in pouring down rain in Washinton State many times when I lived there and would just fire off and reload around noon on especially wet days...just kept my barrel pointing down.
