I am no pro at Wolf Track spotting, but check these out. Found these this morning up Diamond Fork Canyon way up in the snow. No human tracks around like someone was walking their dog. Looked like two where running together. I am 6'2" and the tracks where about the size of my whole palm. Pretty good sized tracks. From what I see on google pictures of wolf tracks, looks like almost a match? What do you guys think? Wolves still in Utah? My guess is I think so!

I've spent quite abit of time hunting those damn things up in idaho, looks alittle on the small side, could be a young wolf, or sub 100 lb animal. The gate looks correct though, wolves will usually walk in each others footprints if there is much snow around.

Alot of people think wolves are these giant animals, rumors of 200+ lb males, dinner plate size tracks, etc.....When I checked in the female I shot I asked the fish cop about 'em. He said, they hired 2 trappers from Canada to come teach how to trap and trap wolves in the area, between the 2 trappers and their 35+ years of trapping experience, the biggest wolf they ever got was 142 lbs. The one I killed was only 90 lbs, but still pretty dang big. I could almost cover her track with a balled up fist.

Whatever they are, looks like they need killin.

Were there any piss stains on your tires when you got back?? Probably some hound dogger out free casting his mutts. The tracks are a perfect size for a 60-70 lbs hound dog.

I checked the way they walked and it was a straight line like wolves do. I agree it was not a 200 lb wolf, but if I balled up my fist like the other guy said it was about that size exactly. I called the fish and game and told them, said they have had a bunch of reports in that area recently. Who knows really until the fish and game or some hunter gives these wolf "hybrids" a good old fashion dirt nap!

Big Coyote, hunt it down and collect the bounty.

When you find a Mature Wolf Track it's gonna be a little bigger than the Track/Pic posted!

Probably some MUTTSTER excercising his MUTT right behind the Snowmobile!

This is more what you are looking for in a wolf track.... 3-4 inches or more across.. 6-8 from bottom of palm to finger tips.... friend is 6'4 260 with large hands....

You know of anyone out there that would be interested in Investing to feed their 401K, IRA or Savings that they took out of the Stock Market? A 10 to 12% and this could be higher, depends on the deal? The return on their Investment can be more than once a month.

That's a big track, Now just how big is your cute little hand LOL.

I'd agree with the fish and game. Large wild dog or wolf highbrid. If your are away from civilization then chances are good it isn't a family pet and it needs to be put down fast before it can spend to much more time chasing or big game around. Wolf or dog if it is wild it is hungry and it is going to go after what ever it can to eat so I hope you are packing something with a long range bite when you are up there. Put those suckers down now!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-02-12 AT 09:51AM (MST)[p]After further investigation into the paw print of the homo sapien cougarus, it has been determined that her track measures in at an impressive 7.5"x7.5" when spread out as pictured. Truly a fine specimen.

You might be a little confused, they and I would like to see how big the RACK is not the track or the rock, just the RACK.....

If you have any pics. please post them??????

Im no tracking expert, but dont tracks get somewhat bigger while in snow during a thaw/ freeze process? That didnt look like fresh fallen snow, so Im betting on a dog (or hybrid) or large 'Yote.

Jus my 2???

?-ERock-> ?

Definitely NOT to small to be a wolf... The wolf we killed in ID had tracks about that size and he was a 2 yr old male weighing in at 90 lbs.

Most people think these wolves are growing upwards of 200+ lbs and have paws the size of dinner plates. While they're are some BIG wolves out there, most of the monster wolf pics you see will realistically weigh in less than 140 lbs which is still a BIG dog!

Here's a pic for reference... the lab in the picture is right at 80 lbs, but the wolf only had 10 lbs on it!

Here is a wolf track next to my gps/radio. The dimensions of that gps is 7.5" long with antenna, 5.1" without, and 2.5" wide. This was a fresh track with no melt to enlarge the track.

So you are looking at close to 5" long and about the same wide, or the palm of a 6' tall man.

Here is my 70lb female drahthaar the same day, next to a 2 3/4 inch shell.

Again, next to the same shotgun shell and a very large Idaho mule deer track.

I have seen some dogs with quite large feet, but not compared to an adult wolf.

Frankly if you are from somewhere other than here in Idaho, W Wyoming, or Western Montana, you probably are guessing.

Ive pretty much hunted up in diamond fork my whole life there is also a ton of people that hunt it, and just ride up the great western trail during the summer so dog tracks possibly but ive herd wolves howel up there for the last 3 years now. Ive never seen them to be honest but i know there up there.

The pictures don't give the tracks justice. Hold you hand out like I did in the picture and you can tell it is a big track. Tracks were on gated private property way back up on the back side of Maple Mountain. I can tell you for sure it is not a coyote track. The gate was a straight line like a wolf. Don't know until I see the animal for sure.
