Unbelievable Poaching Numbers

Now that is real intelligent.....auctioning off poached antlers....hope all the winning bidders have to take a lie detector test after purchasing..

Nope no lie detector test. I know a someone that got busted a few years back poaching a buck that went 210 or so. He went down there and bought his head for 115 bucks.

The guy already paid his fine/ whatever resulting from the conviction. Maybe the fines should be steeper (but they are already pretty high). The $115 is a small portion of what this guy paid for his "trophy".
Bill

Anyone convicted of taking wildlife illegally should not be allowed to purchase poached items.
It should be part of their criminal sentencing.

I agree It was quite depressing to see the fallen animals at the auction.

Midnight

I was out at Antelope Island last year & talked to a DWR officer who had a HUGE dead dear in the back of his truck. He said coyotes/lion killed it & that they would auction off the antlers---

I'm sure there are way more road kills, natural death, animals killed by predators etc...than poaching. You just don't hear about them, when someone poaches a trophy animal it's all over the news.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-04-12 AT 06:38AM (MST)[p]bamacpl---That may be the case, but please don't believe that poaching isn't a big problem. From what I've read over the years, most states figure for every violator that gets caught, there are another ten that aren't. That is really depressing!

Poaching is a huge problem. But, not all of these animals were poached. There was quite a mix, roadkil, lion/coyote kills, natural causes, depredation kills, etc. Not all from poaching.

Sure makes you think twice before do what us right and turn in a dead buck you found knowing the division will just take it and auction it off. This should be changed imho.

By the way you wont buy a 210" dead head buck any more for a 150 bucks. They went for close to a grand. Very few dinks went for under 300 bucks.
