WOW!

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Darn great buck!! Trying to decide if I should wait a few years and get that or draw a 12aw late tag this year. 15 NR points as of now. Would I need a guide? I can't afford one so it would be a DIY hunt. Any thoughts?.....Tom

Salmon i know if i had max points it would be 13 A/B or nothing unless i was up there in age and thought i didn't have the time to wait it out.

We don't see many Bucks like that in TARDville!

Thanks to an average Ripe old age of 2-3 years old on the average PISSCUTTER!

But BY GAWD We got Opportunity,Right Wiley?

All these Perty little Western Belles are a Country Boys Dream!
They ain't got Wings or MM Halo's but they sure look good to me!

15 NR point I would try and draw the strip until I couldn't walk the hills to get to them.

This buck scored 230" and is 35" wide . This was still a younger buck as well . I've got tons of pics of this buck . He was awesome !! But congrats to all involved harvesting this buck .

If you have more pics of this deer post em up.
I'd love to see some more angles of a deer this caliber.

Tom,

My Brother-in-law is in your exact situation with 14NR points and here is some of the same opinion I share with him. I went to this unit scouting by myself 3 times and only saw a two does and a fawn. DIY in the the 13 units is very difficult unless you have someone that knows the area very well. The money it would cost you to scout the unit would probably add up to about the same as paying for a guide. One trip up there for me was average of $400. Make 10 trips and you are getting close to a guide. Don't make 10 trips and you may not find a deer or anything over a 130 buck. I would say "Don't waste 15 years of waiting for a buck like this. 12aw late is a good hunt, but couuld be just as hard to find the huge buck unless you spend some time scouting. Call some of the guides and see what they are willing to do and what there success is. Best of luck. Carl

Carl is 100% correct . If you draw an archery tag for either one of the 13 units , the cost of food, gas, and additional hunting gear like Trail cameras to see what bucks are frequenting water sites, hiring a Guide is cheaper and a lot more successful . Just gas alone last year cost me 8k . But of course that's being out there year long . Accounting for food, gear, vehicle maintenance , Im over 15k . 15 years in waiting for these tags, make it worth your while guys/gals, Hire a Guide !!! Even by hiring a Guide, the hunt is not easy . A lot of perseverance and work is still involved finding that buck of a life time .

+1

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

Thanks Matt and to everyone else for the comments. That is a great picture also and thanks for posting it. This was a young deer and would have been even more incredible this year, but you just can't pass up a buck like this. I was very lucky and fortunate enough to have good friends that were willing to help me with this hunt. Chad Woodruff and his family spent a lot of time in this unit hunting deer and sheep over the last few years and they, along with other friends, helped me harvest this great buck. Because of that relationship and having hunting buddys, I didn't have to hire a guide, but for a once in a lifetime hunt (for most) like this I would have definitely hired someone. Especially after spending some time up there alone and only seeing a hand full of deer. If you are not fortunate enough to have a good friend or family that knows The Strip, I definitely suggest you put away money every year in anticipation of drawing one of these tags so you can pay for a successful guide. It was an UNBELIEVABLE experience that I would wish on anyone.
