Henry's Tag

So it appears I might be one of the lucky ones (if you can say waiting 17 years is lucky) to have drawn a rifle tag.

I have been doing research for the past year or so, but if there are any of you out there that are willing to provide some information/help---I am all ears. At this point I would be a fool not to say that everything is on the table.

Looking for solid information and at this time I am not going with a guide, but hoping to bring my dad and son along as well as maybe my old friend Ernesto.

You can shoot me an email or call me or whatever works.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Larry!!!

Yeah of course nothing is for sure, but since DWR has not called me yet-ha ha....maybe it for real.

Of course bagging something with lots of trash is my goal, but having Hunter and my Dad along would be just great. Trying to get E to come down, as it has been to long since we have hunted deer together and frankly just miss the little bugger!

I think more the merrier, but everyone has their own hunts and of course work has to come first.

Anyway as always good talkin with you!

D

Dean, congrats on the tag. A huge muley would look good along side that huge moose. Best of luck.

Anybody know what BearCats phone number is?

CONGRATS DEAN!!!

Well deserved tag for a LONG 17 year wait. I hope to be along with you on some scouting trips at least! See you tomorrow

Paul

Good luck on a phenominal tag...one of my buddies was one of them that got the call....I think he's still puking in-between tears

CatMan that really sucks... I too was waiting for a call but was hoping with 16 pts I would be safe. I typically do not have good luck so was not expecting much.

I am really looking forward to it as it will probably be one of the last great hunts with my father as he is 71 and has some hip problems---not to mention my 16 who I am hoping to be able to pull out of school.

We will see so much time and things can change in a blink of an eye.

D

Man, it doesn't seem that long ago when you and E got that WY toad. Be cool to put another one next to it.

Yelum

Larry I feel pretty blessed to have met E and wouldn't you know it was even on this site.... even though we were hometown boys!! Crazy friendship we make on the web! Not sure if he will be able to make it now that he is a "family man", but I am twisting his arm the best I can. I mean who does not want to spend a week or so with me!

Yeah we have been able to add a couple of nice trophies to the wall that is for sure. I guess it is nice to have my GUIDE along---I mean my friend...ha ha ha.

Not sure the game plan yet, as I can not believe the people that have offered to help a total stranger---I just hope I can repay the favor someday!

Anyways we will try for a toad as always and have fun. Here is to hoping for the 35" and over 212" with trash---oh baby.

I know there are many of you the photograph the Henrys a ton, and if you care sharing them I would love to see them.

Thanks

Big 6--That is what the doctor ordered!!!!!

Thanks.

Would love to pick your brain...if you have the time. Drop me a line.

Dean

sweet pics big 6. there are a lot of bruisers there. how is this year looking as far as feed/horn growth. there are A LOT of up and comers from last year out there that all could be well over 200".

Billy i havent been down yet i usually dont go down untill mid july. i will say i am nervous to see it was a mild winter and spring so they didnt get much water. the henrys has more water then a guy would think just in spring so if i had any tag i would be studying where the water is (hint) anyways im not sure how much i will be down there this year i havent booked a buff hunter yet and im tied up on the pauns. for the rifle. Bearcat send me a pm with your number and info and i will give you a call or email me at [email protected] or my number is 1435-979-7227

Taylor I will for sure give you a buz once I get all my maps and stuff---many thanks for the offer!!

SoxHunter---well there went the whole day. Love the buck in the timber with matching cheaters and in lines it looks..Thanks!

There are several camp sites on the Henry's. My advice is to not only spend the summer scouting for deer but also for campsites that are relatively close to where you have scouted up a buck or two you are after.

Also, spending some time while the deer are in there summer patterns and are easily visible. Find the buck you want and watch him for a couple days. Those deer don't travel far from what I have seen but its glassing them up during your hunt that is the hardest. Even the best guides and outfitters lose deer on that mountain. Have a backup buck or three!

Yeap Swagshootn that is my plan.

I am just trying to get an Idea for the first trip down there and where might be a good place to park the trailer vs driving around. Also not sure if you can camp high or low as I have not been down there.

Anyway thanks for the advice---adding to my list ha ha ha.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-12-12 AT 08:32PM (MST)[p]Lonesome beaver is a nice place to camp bit you will definately want extra tires on that side of the hill let me know when you are taking your first trip also how big is your trailer

Taylor my trailer is about 28" but that includes the ATV deck. It is lifted and set up pretty good, but with the truck it is long. It can sleep 4-5 guys depending on how much "spooning" goes on. ha ha ha.

I was hoping more of the primative type vs. campground.

Is there not much down there as far a primative as it seems everyone is recommending some sort of campground?

Thanks!
D

Good to know.

I also have a ATV and trailer set up that I can take into very remote places--but I miss my nice bed!

Is this a campground you have to reserve or first come first serve?

D

Any buddy been out scouting the Henry's yet--of course!

I hope to get down there soon.

Love to see how the horn growth is doing so post up some pictures or just me an IM.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
D

You should stay in the motel in Hanksville. Dont waste the fuel towing a 28' trailer. Your hunt will be over in less than 3 days. Might be counted in hours rather than days....lol

Well I got down there this weekend and all I can say is it is one amazing place!

Spent 3 days scouting, saw a ton of 180-190 typicals but nothing that had that OMG factor. But I had a great time and met some good guys!

I will post up some pictures soon.

I would love to see some pictures if anyone else was out there.

Send me a PM or post them up.

D

Email me I have great video of great bucks, I think you still have my email.

Wow! My deer hunt is still a long ways off, I'd appreciate it if you would stop posting pictures of big bucks! :)

Attention ethics police: I have been sent here to
destroy you!!

Well I hope others are having more luck on the Henrys.

I have been down three times and have not been able to turn up anything REAL big....lots of 190" typicals but nothing in the 215+ range.

I still have time but I was expecting for trash. And yes for those that are curious, I have been hiking and camping in remote areas to get away from the roads.

Guess it just needs more time.

I will try and post some videos once I figure out how to make them smaller.

Well!

At least a few Guys are starting to believe my 27% Rule!:D
