Thought I would share this photo. I found this buck this spring. I tried to get the antlers from fish and game but was unsuccessful. He was found in the heart of the city and they rough measured him over 200 inches. I saw this buck earlier that year what a shame to lose such a awesome deer. They determined cause of death a car but I figured he was hung in a fence and got out and went thirty yards and died. His back leg was separated at the joint. WHAT A HOGGGGG. Biggest deer I have ever laid my hands on, just thought I would share the pic with everyone.

Wow, he is a hog. Too bad you were not able to get the antlers. Looks like some cool kickers and some pretty good mass.

Thanks for the post.

Looks like a 170ish frame with maybe 8" of trash...since you didn't kill it I have no problem calling the bullshit card on just over 200 ;-) Cool pic regardless...

LAST EDITED ON Jun-01-12 AT 04:03AM (MST)[p]What was their reason for not giving you the rack, if it wasnt poached then there should be no reason you cant have the rack.

Atleast his genes are still around!!!

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Thanks for sharing the picture..!! It is a shame to lose such a great animal to either a fence or a vehicle.

I have to agree that is not a 200" deer, but I could go as high as a 180" frame with 8" of extras- so 188" and that is a STUD in my book for sure...

Also- tough break not getting the antlers back. You are the first guy I have heard from that didn't get antlers back when the cause of death was found to not be poaching. Maybe you haven't quite pushed hard enough- somebody is keeping those antlers, and they dont belong to them... Make a little noise my friend...

My experience it they only let you keep the antlers if they died of natural causes and they don't consider roadkill natural cause.

I think he was for sure 190s picture doesnt give it justice.. Sorry didn't get a better pic he had great mass and his length was good he had seven or eight on one side and six on the side you can see. The one side in the dirt has a two inch dropper that would have been great to see it develope. Anyway I tried very hard to get the antlers and could not he was found a six hundred yards from any road I actually found the exact spot he was stuck on the fence all that was wrong with him was a leg dislocated from the joint a back leg none the less and a couple cuts but because they said out was hit by a car I couldn't get them I even tried to get them long enough to cast them but couldn't so anyway I thought I would share it with you all

Thats why guys are packing sawzaws now days.

It sucks the DWR wont give you these horns! Its all about the money to these guys! They sell them at the auction. All this does is make guys like yourself not willing to tell them where they find their next buck while at the time entrapping them into doing something illegal by picking them up.

If they simply did there study and gave you the horns they would get more info from the public, as it is now you will see more dear on the side of the road with their horns or heads missing and they wont get any data.

I would agree with high 180's to mid 190ish with what can be seen. Either way, he's a sweet buck. fatrooster.

I agree with swbuckmaster I too wonder if I did the right thing... I mean I did the right thing calling it in and I was hopen to get the antlers but I didn't. I was there with fish and game and the determination of death was literally seco nds I did more then they did heck I even found the fence exact spot where he was hung shoot the supposed road he got hit on was fifty mph... He then jumped three fences and ended up five to six hundred yards just didn't add up to me the leg was dislocated not broken can't see it doing that getting hit no broken antlers and no road rash???? I am still mad but nothing I can do now makes me sick and like you said makes me want to flirt with getting caught taken the head...but is it worth it I don't know just always going to do it the right way and hope for better luck next time. I could see not letting you take the antlers on the side of the road may cause problems.

DWR is their own worst enemies when it comes to this kind of thing. They want coorporation with poaching and problems but they never reward coorporation. If they want laws to be respected they need to be respectable. There is no reason that a buck or bull that has not been poached should not be turned over to the finder. After all we own the deer, our money pays for them.
