Can someone point me toward that photo floating around with the multiple monster muley mounts in the barn. If I remember some say they were poached etc.... Thanks ahead of time. I wanted to show my Dad.

Yes it does! There were more than a few, in our gang, of us young full of piss and vinegar buck hunters who worshiped the ground that he walked on.
No doubt a great buck hunter, really to bad that he'd couldn't settle with his own accomplishments without poaching and taking credit for others kills.
To those who might use Darners history as an example to discredit Trophy hunters, IMO, his ethics were by far the exception rather than the normal SOP of your every day, getting after it, big buck hunters. There were a lot of disappointed and let down guys out there when the truth finally came out.

I have a copy of it, got it as a white elephant gift at a guides meeting christmas party.....i wouldn't part with it for nuttin!!
I've seen copies go for over $300 on Amazon and Ebay if it's a first edition....which i have ;-)

Mine came in the mail today, hard cover in great condition. One of the first few pages indicates that "Others, apparently filled with envy, have accused him of killing his trophy-sized deer illegally" LOL

So.. I just finished his book last night... Having already read most of the dirt on him I found myself laughing several times while reading the book.
What a joke... I don't feel his book will make me a better hunter, at all.. In fact, being mainly a bowhunter I took some his comments to heart. On several instances in that book he takes cheap shots at bowhunters... I didn't care for that too much.

Please contact me if anyone wants to buy my copy my hard cover edition and is willing to pay $100. I went back and went through that book the other day. I was astounded at how much of it sounded inflated. Basically every time he went on the mtn he was doing things like the "fish hook technique" to find 240" bucks. Reading his book he just made it all sound too effortless. I don't think it is a book of much value other than entertainment. Then again, most hunting literature is that way.
Some mighty impressive deer on that barn wall. I believe he had remington in his pocket too, I still remember... two of his secrets came straight out of the box remington 700 and corelokt ammo... I think was the pitch. They always get caught when they try to turn a buck based on the fame.
If you just want to kill stuff on the winter range and put it in your basement you can do it even now with increased scrutiny by the public. But if you put your face out there yelling "look at me! look at me!..." they will.
Admire the deer and ignore the people in the picture, after they are dead and gone the deer will still be on display somewhere!
