The deer gods were with me on the 2nd morning of my hunt as I was able to arrow a buck I named Freak at 17 yards. Out of 25-30 trips to the mountian he was the best buck I had found and therefore #1 on my hit list. I can't describe the emotion that I experienced when I watched the arrow slam both lungs and I knew it was game over. I literally broke down on the mountain for 10 minutes before I could gather my mind and legs and go put my hands on him. I can't wait to feel that high again someday, hopefully sooner than later.

Attaboy. Wish I would of made it out from what u have told me it was an amazing exPerience and a memory u will never forget and cherish forever. That's what it's all about in my book. U put forth the effort and it sure did Pay off. All that's left is to help find me a toad. Congrats bro. TREE

That is so cool that you got him. And all the pics you had from him when scouting. That is just friggin awesome!!!! Congrats!!

That one definatly deserves a place on the wall. All the hard work obviously paid off. Congrats and thanks for sharing the pics.

Shane earned this buck big time. He is a stud of a hunter and he had this buck patterned to the T! My 9 year old son spotted this buck the night of the opener and I almost felt guilty stalking it knowing that Shane had been watching it. We just stumbled on it that night but Shane had sent me scouting pics of it and it is a very unique and identifiable buck. We made a long hard stalk to get to him before dark but we couldnt close the deal. It was a good thing. Shane deserved him way more than we did and he killed him the next morning. What a sweet monster muley! Once in a lifetime for sure. Tonz of character and he lived in the perfect thick hideout that big bucks love. Congrats again to you Shane awesome buck and awesome story how you killed him.

He is going to look very cool on your wall

25-30 trips to the mountain and that's the biggest buck you could find? After finding a buck like that (buck of a life time) I would just be looking for a back up buck knowing I was going to devote my life to killing the big one. Good job and congrats on it not taking a lifetime to get it done.

Thanks for all of the comments guys! This was a Utah LE tag (Vernon). Having only 2 mornings to hunt before I sealed the deal I didnt get a chance to do much hunting to rate the unit and tag. It is definately not an easy unit to hunt being steep, thick, hot and crowded!

Well done Mr Smoktem!
I'm gald to read that you "broke down" after you slammed him. That feeling of excitement, accomplishment and respect for the animal is something I've always understood.
Wonderful hunt for sure!

Great Vernon buck, especially with a bow. There was nothing like that out there when I bow hunted it in '92. They closed it the year after. I rifle hunted it in '07 and saw some great bucks scouting, but they were tough to find after the war broke out opening morning. Congrats on an awesome buck.

Hats off to the hunter. Congrats man that is a once in a lifetime deer. Good job
