So I know there have been a lot of other threads about the book cliffs, but I was just hoping to hear from some of you that have had this tag in the past or have hunted with people that have. I guess I'd just like to hear about your experience, what you would do differently, what you did that worked well, and just any advice or input you have for me. I'm not looking for anyone's honey holes I'd just like to hear what some of you think about the unit/hunt. Any input is helpful!! PM's are welcome! Thanks guys

Be patient, get off the roads.

Go roadless area. My buddy and I watched 6 bucks feed 100 yds away. Two were nice four points and one had a good cheater off his back right fork. Within two days of just riding around and not looking seriously we saw over a dozen different bucks, half of those being shooter bucks.

Get to a good vantage point in the mornings away from the roads and use a spotting scope to cover areas further away. Bucks tend to be grouped together. Make sure you shoot the correct one. Enjoy the experience there. Lots of fun. Make sure you have a spare tire or two.

Being patient. Can't even say how many people ive seen going to the bookcliffs with lots of time off only to shoot a dink in the first or second day. You can still shoot that same dink on the last day! So enjoy the tag

Can we update this forum so posting with a
phone is easier?

I was there last year for the rifle hunt and had a blast! Did it all solo and have one hell of a story to boot. Ill maybe post it up one of these days. Hunted high and low. Found most of the deer in the middle. It seemed most people hunted fromt the roads. I had bucks and does every day right near camp. Nothing worth putting a tag on but it was cool to see. Take your time and enjoy the hunt!! Like every one else is saying get off the roads!! Have fun! Send me a PM and i can give you a little more info on where and what i did...

Hey thanks for all of the good advice! I've noticed that everyone is saying to get away from the roads which I would like to do for sure, but where do I go to do that??? It seems like there are roads at the top of every canyon and to me it seemed like the only way to get away from the roads was to hike down into a canyon and out the bottom and then go around a corner to a different canyon that isn't visible from the roads. What do ya'll suggest?? Keep in mind I'm only familiar with the area around McCook ridge, so maybe that's why I thought it would be hard to get away from the roads.
