LAST EDITED ON Sep-24-12 AT 03:19PM (MST)[p]Hey big Johnt Have you caught the mountain man yet? I'm sure we will see you on the elk hunt !! See you soon. Doc

Thanks for the pic davey.
Dr d Haven't found the mountain man. But I think he is living in my honey hole. No elk in there this weekend. Its a mile half in and no atv access. Perfect place for him and thats where they got the last picture of him on a trail camera.

Thousand Lakes is quite possibly THE worst unit I have ever hunted in my life! Maybe I'm doing something wrong, Idk.... I hunted high low, and in between. North end, South end, middle, it didn't seem to matter, same results. Biggest buck I saw was a 20" heavy, tall, 3pt. Passed on him at first light on the muzzy opener. Low, low, deer numbers.... Hope the rifle hunt gets better!

I agree. I spent multiple weekends scouting this unit and 5 days here hunting on the muzzleloader. Worse decision of my life to hunt this unit. Very few deer and a lot of hunters. Can't believe I thought this would be a good unit. Im sure someone may get lucky and get a good one, but they are few and far between. They should close the unit for a few years.

I could see this coming all summer and sent a letter to the DWR 3 weeks before the bow hunt opened. They didn't even take the time to reply. There are very few does and fawns on this unit but my trail cam turned up lots of cougars and coyotes. This unit has unlimited winter range and it really hasn't changed in 50 years. But of course there are no deer because of habitat loss!
