Help Finding a Vernon Hog

My son in law shot a hog of a deer at very top of Otts canyon last Saturday morning and we have been unable find it.
It was hit just a bit too far back. A really good thwack and hunched up his back and stood there wobbling. My son in law couldn't finish getting the muzzy loaded before he took off down hill and out of sight. No blood, fur, stomach contents found.
I would like to ask that if anyone finds this deer to post up on this thread. I can verify area with longitude and latitude coordinates of where buck was last seen.
Needless to say son in law has been sick to his stomach since.
Thanks.

BTW,
The Vernon Dead Head buck description in another thread DOES NOT match this deer.

Unfortunatley I did the same thing last year. It took me 4 days but I found him. Go check the closest watering holes or source of water. That is where they usually bed down. A gutshot deer is a dead deer. By now you will start to smell him. Good Luck

I'll keep an eye out for him. But by the time I get there for the rifle season, there may be nothing left of him. I'll be hunting just east of Otts on the opener. If I run across anything, I'll let you know. I hope you guys find him. That would be a shame. You can pm me any specifics of the buck.

Biggest Hog I have seen near Vernon, works at the local Maverick c-store. Hope that helps!

Thanks fellas.
Yep. Been looking for birds and around nearest water.

Gander,

Are you and Bullcrazy (Glenn Jackson) talking about the same buck? If not it sounds like 2 hog/enormous bucks got gut shot with a smoke pole and not found. I hope the buck(s) are recovered.

After bowhunting out there this year I dont see how there is a deer left on the mountain with 400 plus tags given out!

Yeah, its the same buck. I'm not sure if the big buck that was found is my buddies buck or if the one he shot is still out there, either way we would really love to track it down.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-12 AT 12:44PM (MST)[p]Bullcrazy and I are talking about the same buck.
We sure hope to find this buck as it is a Dandy!
Hey Glenn thanks for chiming in.

What does the buck look like? Typical? Non-typical? I unfortunately don't have any information, just hunted the Vernon last year and am curious...

Hope you guys are able to find him.

I am wondering the same thing? There was a nice typical (180's) hanging toward the top of your canyon before and during the bow hunt?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-12 AT 02:51PM (MST)[p]It was a typical, but I think it had a couple extras if I remember right. GanderBander saw it up closer than I did so he could answer that better. When we initially saw it though we guessed it to be in the 190's or so.

Son in law had to work, so I spent all day on the mountain yesterday , solo, trying to find this deer. No luck.
A thorough grid search provided nothing. No leads, no sign or birds besides the jays and smaller mountain birds to give any indication of scavenging taking place. A search of the local water source also turned up empty. Very disappointed and sick. Man am I beat!
