Now that the calender has finally turned to Ocotber my Colorado trip is so close I can taste it! Me and my buddies will be hunting unit 70 for 2nd season west of Miramonte Resevoir somewhere around Hamilton Mest I think. I have never hunted in Colorado before, but my buddies have hunted in unit 62 before. I was just wondering if there was anybody out there who might have some words of wisdom for us, or maybe some pictures of the country around there or their success. Good luck to anybody else who will be hunting in the next month and thanks in advance for any info.

My wife and I hunted GMU 70 during the 3rd season in 2009 and I've had three good friends hunt the area several times in the last few years.

You're on the right track, especially if we get snow. Keep in mind that not all of Hamilton Mesa/Dry Creek Basin is public and the private is well patrolled. I scouted the 2nd weekend of 2nd season in 2009 and the bucks were still mostly up in the aspens. Lots of does and little bucks down in the sagebrush/pinyon-juniper.

If your expectations are reasonable it should be a fun hunt. There are a lot of hunters and lots of deer; quality bucks can be few and far between.

We were there last year and YES Hamiton Mesa is like a SEA OF ORANGE. Even the F&G guys were shocked at the amount of hunters in that small area and YES it was the 2nd season. Never again.
