My brother was able to find the white side of this deer and ran into the guy who had the other, anyways he wanted me to post and ask how much you would have paid for other the side?? or what would the set be worth together? the buck is about 205 give or take a few inches and about 30-32 wide.

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for other half. Full set, don't know, maybe 3 to $400 to the right person.

I don't value antlers of bucks that i or family didn't kill, never have, and still xdon't understand others obsession. In our younger days, we hunted around Gunnison Co a lot and several places were littered with huge drops that we'd have to be kicking out of our path. Once in awhile one might pick up and bring back to camp, a truly oversize brute as a, "wouldn't you like to get this guy?". Camp was as far as they'd get though, don't believe that we ever brought any home.

That said, it's not legal to buy or sell antlers, or other game animal parts, where i live and i believe this to be one of the few Laws that Cali got right. All too often, the game animal is put in jeopardy because someone is willing to, lie, cheat, steal, or harass, for the monetary value one gains in the possession or sale of his dropped rack!

i would say up to 200 to make a match set, it means more to you. than if it were just a antler for sale,,,,

Knife handles, drawer pulls, cribbage boards, coat racks and buttons.

I don't get it, but if some people want to pay that kind of money for "sheds and deads", it's OK with me, I just don't understand the urge.

sh!t a better argument than that!"

+1 Dont understand the obsession with sheds if you didnt harvest the animal. To each his own I guess.

I highly doubt you guys would kick a 200" set of sheds out of the trail and keep walking by them! Come on Man! A giant set of antlers are cool to look at no matter who shot or found them.

Actually, yes people back then would kick them out of the way. I'm sure this was before sheds weren't looked at as anything more than scattered bones. Fast forward to now and fist fights break out over two point sheds. Either way that is a nice set!

Do i need to define Obsession for you? We did pick up the occasional extra large antler and bring it back to camp but we did not care one bit of all the sheds in a spot other than knowing where the deer probably wintered and hoping there were some, like the bigger drops, still around.

As i said, i didn't bring any home but my hunting pard recently showed me a massive typical set that would probably go very near or over over 200". "pretty neat", i said as he stuck them back in the rafters. Understand this, he has more than several 200+" bucks and over a dozen 30+" bucks, all from non-resi hunts, that he killed and only about half of those are even mounted. Why obsess on some antlers from bucks we never saw and didn't shoot?

Nothing wrong with large antlers at all. I just don't obsess over the ones found on the ground.

Oh i don't doubt you...especially now days! I don't mean to be a stick in the mud on the OP's thread, was just telling it from the perspective of a older fart that saw it when antlers weren't near as in demand. I might take a cruise over to the desert country sometime and look around a bit but seems that i have too many hobbies already that tax on any expendable funds that i may have. Gas is over $4.50/gal here! :)

LAST EDITED ON Oct-08-12 AT 05:44PM (MST)[p]If I had the single and wanted to match him (If i had watched him or hunted him) I would agree with the others...$200.00 MAX - IF IT WERE BROWN. If it were white and had ANY cracks... I wouldn't pay more than $100.00.

Overall price will differ. There are several factors that will determine price... Grade (A,B,etc), personal interest/how badly someone wants it, and the price of the overall set once matched. If this buck is truly a 200" after deductions or (194" TYP after deductions) I have sold several that went from $600-$800 in the down economy. Great time to buy... horrible time to sell :)

As for Joe's posts... My grandpa (who shot a 240" buck in CO) agrees with that. He said they wouldn't bother to pick them up regardless of size. In fact, he was going to throw his rack (skull plate intact) in the garbage.

thanks mms just wanted to check out what other people buy sheds for.

but as for me, i go hunting to shoot big deer. i go shed hunting to find big horns. (witch dosent happen that often) finding 'em or shoot'em its about the same for me. thanks guys.

I wouldn't pay anything for it unless there was an opportunity to sell the set and make some money. Having a big set of sheds would be nice to have laying on the fireplace mantle. But as far as satisfaction goes, it's about like putting yer tag on a deer someone else shot...

To each his own, I dont understand why ppl play golf! And people dont understand why wed pay good money to match up a nice set of sheds! Who cares. If yoi found one side and someone else found the other its a blessing to find out who and have the opportinity to buy it. I wish I knew who found th e other side to alot of my horns.

triple bb' some day i hope you get the antler fever, then youll know, its like sex. till you get some nobody can tell you about it.

+1 IDbones it's a hobby and it's still the thrill of the hunt, it's a huge rush for me when I pick up a big horn or even better a set. As for buying them I guess that all depends on what the deer means to you. With no history behind it or time into it I couldn't bring myself to buying. Just my opinion congrats on the great find though and closure knowing it's not still laying out there. Great buck!!

I agree with Sage and Nick, don't get it. I have a few that I've kept. But these folks come out here and fill stock trailers full, they aren't making furniture, lamps, buttons. They push the elk and deer year round now it seems, and I just have to get farther back in to find them. I use my antlers and hides for furniture.

My neighbor is a shrink......he thinks some people who are so into shed hunting were the slow kids at the Easter egg hunts.......just repeating what HE said.

Go 2 fourms down on this on this web site and you can buy the right to just set foot on property that MIGHT hold a deer with antlers like those.

It will only cost you $3000 to $ 5000.

It's your money spend it on what makes you feel good.
