He was able to get an arrow in this magnificent buck and the blood trail begins...

Unfortunately this old bruiser wasn't going to give himself up so easily and we weren't able to recover him that day. I spent 5 whole days searching for this buck and finally was able to find him! We went from the absolute rock bottom low of feeling like we lost this buck to an exteme high of finding him later on.

That is a stud buck. Congrats on a beautiful buck and I'm sure an awesome experience with your dad. I just completed the best hunt I've ever had with my dad on the muzzy hunt and the memories will last forever. Good job on sticking with it and recovering that buck too!

A Huge congratulations for shooting and FINDING the buck. I have a ton of respect for someone who will look for FIVE days for the buck they shot. That takes some very very strong determination, and it paid off. This is a good example to all of us. If you don't mind, maybe you could tell us your method of search that led you to finally finding the trophy? Circling, GPS, matrix, birds?

first off congrats on an awesome buck.

another question. Does that buck have a broken left g4?

Congrats to your dad! That is a great buck! Glad you were able to retrieve him after such a long search.

Beautiful buck and great lesson for everyone on this site for sticking to the task and finding that beast of a buck. I would have looked all over the planet and back for that one as well. Off the extended is even better. One of my favorite places to hunt. Nice job and great pics. Thanks for sharing.

Sean,
You sure know how to get things done after seeing the pics you have both harvested and been a part of harvesting. Congrats on another mighty fine buck. Glad you guys stuck with it and found him.

Congrats to your dad on a great buck! Enjoyed the pictures and enjoyed the story of hunting and later finding this buck. Way to stick with it! I had a similar experience on the front three years ago with a not so happy outcome. I also hit a great buck but could not find him that day. I went back multiple times over the next 10 days trying to find him, but never could turn him up. Kudos to you and your determination in sticking with it. I am sure your dad appreciates your help (his ear to ear grin says as much) and no doubt that buck will be a great conversation starter for years to come. Well done and congrats again. Kip

Great work on finding that buck, I bet that was an amazing feeling when you finally stumbled up on him.

Thanks for all the great comments guys! My dad is ecstatic with his buck!

Thanks Kip, I appreciate it. Pretty cool coming from a guy I've looked up to for years.

Bugleboy, I had the same question as AZ4life. Was there anything you can share about the search that might help someone else in a similar situation? Was it just a lot of hiking and covering ground or did the birds clue you in? I have to imagine you tried a lot of stuff and tested a lot of theories during those 5 days.

That's a great buck.

Sorry for the delayed response guys.

Day 1-4 Search I hiked in a grid pattern in all directions, 1/4 mile around last blood found. The buck was running continually sidehill down the canyon and often making leaps straight down the steep slope making tracking very difficult. The last blood was found within a few hundred yards from a deep canyon which gave us two options; he either ran straight and died in the bottom or he continued to follow the sidehill around. I spent the majority of the time searching the sidehill in the timber, but came up with no sign.

It wasn't until Day 5 of searching that I was just randomly hiking around the sidehill about 1/2 mile away from last blood in an area i never thought to look. I dropped into this deep ravine and all the sudden I could smell something dead. Another 200 yards down and there layed the buck! It was pure luck and persistence that allowed me to find my dads deer. I was absolutely determined to find his deer because honestly he deserved that buck and he doesn't get many chances at big bucks; so I made it my mission to not stop looking until I found him.

Congrats on sticking with it. That must have been very special for the both of you. Brute of a Muley. Very well done. The smile is what it's all about.

ive been in similar experiences and the best thing to do is be persistent and follow your nose. especially if its warm. they can get pretty stinky in a hurry. get downwind of big areas and it helps a ton

glad you was able to find him, he will be great on your Dads wall.
