Hey guys anyone had any archery or muzzleloader success in Pine Valley this year? Havent seen any posts come across but there were tons of people all over up there for the muzzleloader. Post up some pics or stories. If no success yet, good luck. I'm in the same boat :)

I will be hunting Pine Valley, but have no idea where to go Rifle hunting. I spent good time on the unit on the Archery hunt and Muzzleoader. It seemed like there were more people hunting this year and more hunters got deer.

I will be up there this coming Friday and staying for a week. Going solo since no one in my family put in for the drawing. My dad and I always do but I lost my dad. Feel like I need to go so keep an eye out for a brwon chevy silverado.

Good Luck guys

This unit can be very deceptive I've learned over the past few years in the dedicated hunter program. Just when you think you know where the deer might be you don't find them. Right now I'm finding only minmal amounts anywhere along the range and none at winter range yet.

Has anyone had success there? Post up.

Noticed the same thing about the # of people you mentioned. Mostly during the muzzleloader. Spent some time up by Enterprise and Central areas. Never saw anything worth pulling the trigger. Was out by Pahcoon Flats/Utah Hill area this past week scouting and didnt see a single deer. Where have you been looking or thinking about trying?

Last year I hunted high and didn't see a deer opening morning. This year I'll try and hunt in lower elevations, to find them. There are too many places for them to hide in. So it's going to be challenging and trying some new areas to learn.

Its a general unit and your going to have a hard time getting anyone to post good information. Those that know the unit well and have done well over the past years are gonna keep their mouths shut......the deer are there just gotta dig a little deeper and glass a little harder if you arent finding what you are looking for.

That's why I haven't said anything, I live on the unit and know it well. My wife hunted a 9 buck bachelor group, on the archery hunt, but missed her shot. We have seen no one else hunting these bucks, and they are still there.

Took a nice 20 inch heavy 4X3 with the bow on Labor Day. Going out with son opening weekend to see if we can get him one. Youngest son with me on the archery deer.

Hunted the muzzy season and had no luck connecting on anything. Hunted 5 days and saw nothing I liked. Talked to others and they saw the same as I had. Saw only one buck that was OK that was taken by another hunter that was a catus type. One thing I did see was plenty of does with twins and triplet fawns. Thats a plus. I have no idea where the bigger bucks were. Should of had Shummy guide me to one. Looks like he and his wife had them coraled. How you doing Shummy? Kerry

LAST EDITED ON Oct-17-12 AT 11:36PM (MST)[p]We all know Shummy has those dogs trained to smell out all of those big bucks. :)
Oh and Ranger1 it makes it so much better taking a nice buck with one of your young ones with you. Congrats and good luck with the older boy.

Ranger that's a great deer taken with your son. Good luck on your next outing.

Mickey I had the same experience as you which makes it hard to sty motivated for what is likely to be more of the same, but I guess that is the great thing and reason why we all hunt- you never know what can happen with hard work and some luck.

Went out to Pahcoon tonight saw more does and fawns and about 15 trailers / camps. The herds are defending just not the right kind. Apparently from what I've heard in the past, lots of bucks get killed out there the second weekend of the 9 day hunts.

Wish I had known you were around with a tag, I've seen more bucks this year than I have in a long time. I would have given you some insight!

Thanks Shummy, I've had great luck where I have been hunting in the past, but? Next time I'll get in contact with you a little sooner. Thanks again!
