I don't know whether I dare ask on MM but could anyone tell me how far down most of the deer are on their migration travels. Would appreciate a PM from someone who has been there in a last few days.

Hey Cannonball! I haven't been out there for a while but I hope you find another big one this year!

Thanks Mesa,

Looks as if we will be out there for the next three years. I'm thinking of bundling my kids and grandkids' bonus points so I can shorten the years. I went down there 1 1/2 weeks ago and most of the deer had not moved at that time. Our trip took us up Crawford and there were deer all over the flats on top. We went on a Monday expecting to eat at Ruby's after it got dark. There were lines out to the entry door there and at the Pines' restaurant had a waiting list. We settled for a Subway in Panguitch. "Geeezze"

Wouldn't you know my son that has the permit has been working on buying a home on a short sale for five months. His wife called us today and said it went thru. He has been over on the Bookcliffs working all week , will not be home until Thursday night. He may have some conflicts next week. Cross your fingers.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-18-12 AT 12:37PM (MST)[p]Anyone interesting in Paunsaugunt deer hunts needs to take a good bit of time and study this study that the Arizona game did on the migration of the Paunsaugunt deer herd.

Incredible, detailed amounts of info including right where they come down from the plauteau and where they congregate in the winter. More importantly where they cross over at. Shows it on a map!!

About 35% do winter in Arizona with vast majority being on Buckskin.

Study even shows the dates of when those 35% go into Arizona.

All I know from when I hunted it back in 2009 this study is spot on.

Good luck!

I also say thanks for the info guys. My brother has a tag and we are on our way down to hopefully help him find a nice buck and have a lot of fun. I wish cannonball's boy and anyone else with a pauns tag the very best of luck.

There's already deer in the low country this year,
Crossing Hwy 89 in the usual spots east of Kanab.
