Me and my buddy were sitting on a cliff glassing away when I spotted it. As I was explaining to my friend where it was. You know how complicated it can be to explain the exact spot. Anyhow we ranged the classes reading we could get from the range finder 776 yards. Then just guessed it about 250 beyond that. The excitement was kicking in because there was a lot riding on this one shot. Anyhow I settled on my back pack as my friend watched and he said he was good. I dialed my scope in. Controlled my breathing and squeezed the trigger. Missed. Forgot wind adjustment. I hurried and reloaded. Adjusted for wind. Settled down and squeezed the trigger again. My friend said got it that time. Well I told you there was a lot riding on that first shot. It was Pepsi and a snickers bar if I missed. Those dang rocks that sit out there are irresistible, sometimes you just have too shoot them because there ain't no deer.

I hear you man. I killed one at 623 the other day too. Even got it on video! The best part...you can shoot 'em and leave 'em to rot!

As I read that, I was wondering why the stupid thing didn't get up and run after the first shot! They really are dumb as a box of rocks.

Captain Jack, i can't speak for the rest, so just my opinion, but don't post it up on my account. 800+ yard shots at big game generally don't pan out and i believe that a list of good hunting ethics includes no place for them.

cantkillathing, what type of scope were you using? I have been looking for a long range scope and just wanted some feedback. I was thinking of getting a huskemaw blue diamond, any input. Thanks

Cool I just got the 17 hmr all dialed and can't wait to make my 1000 yard shot. hopefully I will only need one shot not 2. But heck since I am not a true hunter who can actually close the distance to responsible range it does not matter anyhow....

Buckmark Hunter, it is a leupold mark V 4-16 power scope with turret adjustments.

The hardest part about the shot was after killing the rock, it dulled my knife trying to gut the thing.

During archery season i seen a bull bout 550 yds away, figured what the hell might as well take a shot. dropped that sucker dead figured why make hunting a challenge and get them close when i can jus lob arrows or lead at them and take away all their chances of me not gettin a shot

Hello Mr. Wisz,This is the UDWR Calling....LMMFAO!
15" Bases?
30" 5ths?
GOOD GAWD A MIGHTY!

I shot a deer size rock at 673 yards before the hunt (the dumb thing just lay there and never moved). During the hunt I sheaked in to >135 yards and killed a buck. That's the best of both worlds for me!
