I was accused by a few folks of improving the gene pool by harvesting this buck. He's an old bugger with good mass but not too great in the fork department. But he was only a mile from the bikes on opening morning and I hadn't seen anything better in 4 scouting trips. So I was happy to help the herd out by tagging him. I've decided to do a euro mount with him, and use the cape to bring another deer back to life.

Here is my grandpa's best buck, taken out of Diamond Fork sometime around 1950. It's the buck on the right - it has a really compact frame and only scores in the mid 150s but has great mass and character. Those antlers were mounted on a plaque at his house and I loved looking at them whenever I would go visit. My buck and Gramps' are both old and white-faced so I can't wait to give that old rack a new look with this year's cape!

That'll be pretty cool to bring your grandpa's buck back to life with your buck's cape. Love those old photos. Majority of those antlers didn't survive. Glad a few sets did!

Nice buck El_Matador. No reason to apologize for him or dismiss him as a mere Management Buck. This white-faced wiley old buck may have lost some horn growth but not his wisdom, and thus is worthy of the challenge and deserving of the respect of all true mule deer hunters.
