LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-12 AT 05:11PM (MST)[p]Killed this buck opening morning of the 2nd rifle season. Fun hunt with my dad and sister with me. Also, first time on the stalk with the new Remmy .308. Couldn't be happier. :)
Also, what do you think he scores? Had a few people say maybe 180?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-12 AT 05:28PM (MST)[p]Thats a darn nice trophy! Congrats on a bruiser of a buck. I would say 180-185.

DBKG, Nice Buck, Congrats!!

From your pic's, looks like he's not huge framed but he does have the kind of rack that adds up to a lot of points. 180 might be a good guess. If he were mine, i'd score him or have him scored if you don't know how. Great buck!

I'm planning on it! Would love to know! But heck it's not all about score... I had a fun hunt and took a trophy animal so what more could I ask for!

I agree with you 100%, it's certainly not all about the score...yet you did ask, right?

I've taken a lot of bucks in the past 50 years, hunting a lot of states. Most of the time, i had good places to hunt. Maybe not the best places and i didn't seem to ever kill the biggest bucks around but i killed a lot of nice Blacktails and more than a few nice Muley Bucks. Of all those bucks, maybe a couple grossed over 180".

A trophy's score does not make one buck better than another. It also doesn't make one hunter better than another. It's just a number that you and i can use to help .describe the qualities of a particular animal.

For instance, if you said "i killed a nice 24" 4x5 that ended up grossing right at 180"". If you told me that, i'd, a lot of others here too, know from experience just the type of quality buck that you took. Also, there is always the chance that your buck might make enough points to qualify to be entered into the Record Books of North American Big Game. Boone and Crockett, The Book! Some do, some don't enter their deer if it qualifies. It's totally up to the hunter!

I have a good buddy who has passed on now. His name is Jerry Morgan and you could find it under Typical Mule deer in "the Book". His buck, i seen it many times, looks very similar to yours. It's a scoring machine yet not all that big of a framed buck. Sometimes a buck doesn't have to be a monster to score really well and that's why i suggested that you might want to get yours scored. Sorry for the long post!

Yup that's a dandy buck alright!

Joey (sage) stated my sentiments exactly when it comes to a "trophy". Of course we have about the same time/experiences.....except I've never shot/hunted a Blacktail. My loss.

Congrats on an excellent trophy buck.

Congrats on a great buck. My guess would be 175-180. Love the eye guards. And yes everyone wants to know the score, but is that what really counts? Not in my eyes. It's how you achieved the success that was put out there for u to take. Those memories are priceless in my book. Like was stated in other posts. The score lets other hunters know the quality of the deer that was harvested. Again congrats and thx for the pics.

I can tell by the pride in your post that this is a trophy.
Also bases on size and acore he is a trophy.
The best/oldest buck i shot was a huge 2x3. Still one of my best trophies.
Your bucks looks 180. Great job.
