I am heading out on the 4th season deer hunt in units 64/65. I have never hunted a 4th season, so for those of you that have... How is it compared to the third season and is the quality of deer much better? What class of deer can i expect to see and shoot? Thanks any info will help!

The advantage of the fourth season is the rut is happening. I don't know what kind of deer are in 64/65 but the longer you can hold out the more likely you are to find a good one.
I hunted the third season last year and lucked into a great buck. It seemed to get better every day and a little weather always helps. Generally by that time the deer are in the lower country/winter range. If it is warm the bucks will sometimes lay in the trees near the does and will only show themselves early and late. Look for does and be sure to check out the trees that are close by.

There will be alot of deer down on private ground that time of year...That is a fun unit to hunt i've never hunted 4th. season but i've hunted third. A 22" to 26" typical would be hard to pass there, they have bigger but you will see them on private you can't hunt...

Good luck and report back after the hunt!!!!!

Thanks for the info.. I guess i should have mentioned in the original post. I have access to 2 ranches right at the base of the mountain. Does this change anything on the quality of deer i will be able to shoot and see?

Ya fourth started today. I hunted fourth last year in a different unit. Don't expect to see a big buck under every tree but trophy potential is slightly higher than during third.

Good luck. I am helping my dad with his hunt right now. Gotta love rutted up bucks!

The mountains, not the hills.
