Hey Guys-

I have an idea of what I want to do this year in the Utah deer draw with 12 points but was curious if any of you had any opinions on what YOU would do and why?

I am not in a huge hurry to burn these points and can wait up to 5 years until in my opinion I will lose patience and want to hunt.

Archery, Muzzleloader, or Rifle are all options for me with these points.

I have been rolling the dice between Muzzleloader and Archery Henry Mtns. the last 7 years and have not hit the jackpot yet.

Thanks

Id go henry mountains archery you could draw it in less then 2 more years and 50% out of 8 tags kill a 200-220 buck.

good luck wish I was in your shoes!

Yes I am a Utah resident-

Thanks for the feedback guys..

Looks like I could pull Archery San Jaun this year.

I looked at both Muzzleloader and Archery Henry numbers and as they stand now, if nothing changes, in a worst case bet I have about 90 people in front of me for the muzzleloader tag and about 30 for the archery. So by those numbers it might be a few years either way.

Lets just say I wanted to hold out for a muzzy tag- is ten years realistic (as an estimate) to have the tag in pocket?

Man, If I had 12 deer points I would definately wait the time necessary for an Archery Henry's Deer Tag.

You have waited 12 years so far and why not wait a couple more for the chance at the "Best Mule Deer Hunt in the World".

The great thing is you WILL eventually draw a Henry's tag. I with not points will probably never draw.

Any other unit is no where near the guarentee the Henry's is for a Big Buck.

Good Luck!!

Honestly, I can't stand big deer in the velvet... It always seems like such a waste to have a hige buck on the wall, and have it covered in that fuzzy brown stuff...

I love a hard-horned, thick grey-coated, rutting buck... Just how I am... So, if I had 12 points- I'd be hunting the Dolores Triangle next year. The rifle hunt is right in the rut (Nov), most likely with cold weather and snow on the ground. For me, that would be the best hunt.

I might get some flack for the velvet comment. Sorry guys. Given the opportunity, I'll always choose the hard horn and grey cape.

If you have a son or daughter who will be old enough to hunt in the coming years you could keep building pts and then put in as a group. When they avg the pts you could draw something like the book cliffs.

Are there any CWMU's you'd consider burning that tag on?

+1. I much perfer hard horns and a winter coat. Just looks right.

Archery henrys would be an awesome hunt. I got impatient and cashed my points in and now wish I would have waited. But to each his own good luck on your decision (its a tough one)!! Oh yeah and velvet muleys are absolutely beautiful. IMO

Thanks guys! Very valid points. I appreciate your input but with less than a week left I am still 100% unsure what I want to do. Leaning more and more toward waiting it out with a Muzzy for the Henrys. Love archery but have a hard time stomaching 12 points on an arrow. Might be a long wait though...
